Usually I prefer men singing.. but there are some great bands with women that shouldn't be left out. Your preferances? I don't like bands like Within Temptation, Evenescance at all. I'd go for:

Doro + Warlock! Of course!
Girlschool, another obvious one
Znowhite - cool thrash with female on vocals
Rock Goddess - Nice nwobhm, she made many awesome songs
Vermillion - rather obscure nwobhm female band. I love their song and single "Angry Young Women"
Blacksmith - their first 7'' was with a female, I enjoy both their work.
Childhood's End - US metal, thier EP kicks ass.

Ermm, didn't you forget Acid here ??? :err:

Bands I like with female vocals are;
Znöwhite
Détente
Aloha-Vixen (later Hawaii, with Kim LaChance)
Hellion
Nightwish
DC Lacroix
Saraya
Acid
Aghora (more prog but still a little "metal")
Fatima Hill

Madder Mortem. Progressive doom from Norway. Awesome female vocals.

the Gathering. Started out as death metal in the early 90s, morphed into 'atmospheric metal' and now play an interesting mix of doom/stoner/Floydian/electro/pop/metal with the most beautiful voice I've ever heard!

Lacuna Coil. The band that copied the Gathering mid-period of atmospheric metal (only without much atmosphere). Good band nonetheless.

In the Woods. Now-defunct Norwegian progressive/psychadelic metal band that featured dual male/female vocals. Unbelievably talented band. Their cover of Crimson's "Epitaph" is GODLY!

Call me a sexist but there is only one metal band with a female vocalist that I like. And that is Arch Enemy. I am total awe of Angela Gossow not just because of her voice but also because she has more courage than most of the male musicians I know.

From the very beginning when she started as a vocalist for Arch Enemy she has been threatened, insulted and addressed as if she was some cheap whore.

Never in person and face to face [which says a lot about the despicable cowards who act in this manner] but for more than a year here at UM on the Arch Enemy board. This is why the Arch Enemy board had to disappear.
Angela Rules!! :headbang: Now if only I get the chance to see them live!

Outside out metal there are two female vocalist I enjoy a lot. The dutch vocalist Mathilde Santing and the Canadian singer Dalbello.

I've told sixxswine about this band from Ohio called Estuary it may not be in a lot of
folk's taste because they are death metal band but Zdenka Prado's brutal vocals
makes Angie (and I fuckin love Arch Enemy!!) sound like Shirley Temple. This woman
even crushes a lot of her male counterparts in this genre. Go to www.tidesofestuary.com to hear some mp3s of this fine band. :headbang:
