For those of you who aren't American

You people really need a reality check and to stop thinking that if you repeat something often enough it will become fact. I can sit here and rattle off bogus crap about every country that you people represent but I do not have the experience of living where you live just like you don't have the experience in living in the US so shut your traps. You people have no right or knowledge to say the things you say and the more you talk, the more your credibility goes out the window. This goes double for the Mr. Canadian who got hit in the head 1 too many times with a hockey puck! I may not be proud of everything about being an American but I sure am proud about a lot of things!!!

Oh and by the way, it's GWB you morons

Wake up and smell the world dude!

Outsiders know more about what the U.S. does internationally than the very citizens of the U.S. This is a fact. I was raised in Colombia and I assure you I know a whole deal more about this country (U.S.) than YOU do! and I'd be happy to prove it anytime anywhere.

quite normal guys. they're not really stupid, just uneducated and uninterested in learning something about other countries! that's why american tourists are always crying out "oh my gosh" when they see things which are totaly normal to us, like the ancient buildings in european towns, cultural events, customs or whatever else. they just don't have that over there!
You should talk to me! I love learning about other countries. :DThough it doesn't say much in a place like this, but I'm leading my school in world history. :heh:

Tourists are like that no matter what counry their from. Europeans do the same thing in Orlando...get way over excited about stuff we think is normal...except the Irish...they get drunk and act like they own the place :)

when i was in 10th grade, slept every day and world history class and made a B w/o trying. i love learning about other countries

hahahahaha I see all kinds of tourists going "oh my gosh!!" when they see the golden gate bridge...but who give a fuck, I see it all the time. Just because people say oh my gosh doesn't mean they know nothing about it, it just means they're amazed to see something in person....you can read about it all you want, but to see it in real life is different. I think you're misinterpreting.

and for the record.....I don't remember any of my american history from high school and middle school....we have to learn about european history. So the part about americans knowing nothing about other cultures is bogus....at least where I'm from. There's a whole outburst of political correctness whenever we're not learning about other cultures...it's pretty annoying.

well, what i meant was that they didn't even know we have that much ancient cultural stuff here. i mean i might be impressed by the golden gate bridge, but i know that it exists and i've seen it many times on pics and tv.
maybe you're right that all tourists are like this in a way, but americans are, in general, percepted by us as the ones most easily in awe about everything, like the japanese tourists taking fototgraphes of everything, may it be interesting or not. i know, it's clichee, but that is how they are perceived here.

and concerning education, maybe your school is an exception, or how would you explain those many americans who know nothing about outside of their borders?
also the term "foreign cultures" is a bit odd! unless you're native american, there should be at least one non-american culture not so foreign to you! i know that most european americans are from mixed european descent, many german and irish, so they should at least take some interest in their anchestral land!
i met one american guy who was of german descent, his forebears moved to america in the 17th century. but he had really interest in his heritage and also took german in school. still, he could only speak a few words, but i really honour that attempt.

and if you learn so much about other countries in school, why do we talk english here?:D

Well I am not very keen of americans. Some of them are real jackasses.

Hmm...That reminds me of something.Did the ex-mayor of New York say smth like ''I didn't do a crime,I just didn't follow the law.'' ?
*seriously*

You have to remember one of the reasons why so many Americans are ignorant of other countries is that we live in a large country with a huge ocean on each side and a huge country below us and above us. We're never really exposed to people from other parts of the world except for those on vacation, because for most Americans, going to Europe or Asia or wherever costs too much money. So our ignorance is not just because we all have American flags shoved halfway up our ass (though in some cases it is sadly true), We are fairly isolated from the rest of the world, and you can only learn so much from a book or the History channel.

So what you're saying is something like americans are kind of like gold fishes with legs?

Yeah except when we die we don't flush each other down the toilet. :)

You (north) americans all say you hate your government too, but if you were to give up all your excedent prosperity in order to build up a more decent, just world, you all would get some ugly american flags and put them on your back to protest, yelling empty words like: God is America, We Love America, War Against "terror", and so on...
that was beautiful!

In this country the majority of the United State..tans... are blindly nationalistic and patriotic. And have unfounded hatred for other cultures. I actually hear all the time that 'all sand my pals should be wiped off the earth"

This nation is the most hypocritical one in the world: The citizens here are heavily blinded from a lot of things, but are made convinced that this is the freest nation least filled by propaganda
beautiful as well!

this is the problem. because of US's government, thousands of people starve to death or live in utter misery. it's sad but it's true. so actually, you should see this 'war' from the terrorists' angle. it's not like they were BORN EVIL and decided to strike against you for nothing at all, you see. if something as huge as this is happening, you should really try and see the big picture, and not just blame those damn terrorists. because in their eyes, it's the US who has started the terror, not them!

what could be done then? we should work to make life on this planet good for everybody, and not super-excellent for just a few. but the USA is not buying this idea, because that would mean to give up the 'american way of life'.

oh well... and then the WTC. instead of looking at what happened to try and understand what's wrong with the government, the american citizens chose the blind hate and now we'll all pay for it.

and finally:

first of all you could NOT rattle off about every country we represent even if you tried to. and btw I am not saying my country is right or wrong. as a matter of fact I am NOT a patriot.

but when you stretch what you are saying to imply that just because we do not live there then we can't talk about the ways of your government, then you should just shove your head down the toilet and flush it my friend, cause there's shit up there.

what your country does has a MAJOR influence in everybody's life. would you still have that ridiculous self-righteous attitude if you were a starving child in Somalia?

Dude it is so much easier and frequent for people from the U.S. to travel to other parts of the world... It is much more difficult for other people to get in this country. And more generaly, most people of the world never do travel anywhere else other than where they live.
