As for the topic, I'd say "Flying", second choice would be "Balance". But I already voted for "Are You There?" before I got the album since I found it so sad it didn't have any votes :( .

By the way I really like Vincent's singing on this album.

i doubted much about AFDTE.I didnt listen to it for months when i bought it,cos it annoyed me.AND is different, but what worries me is that Anathema try to sound like Anybody except for Anathema...One can easily make out the *complex* that they dont wanna have anything to do with *Metal*.
Thats why the album lacks in distinguishing features as you said.Only some parts can remind us of the good old Danny guitar style...

I can honestly say that Radiohead,Portishead and all them *intellectual* bunch can fuck off right now. They are not worth even a single hair off Anathema's head. This spirit, this anger, this honesty and pain cannot be compared to any airy fairy britpop chart tunes.

To anyone who could say im not open minded:I have been following that scene(Britpop,Indie Rock etc) for years. All the representative bands of the scene, including Radiohead(i even payed 37 euros to see them live...).After some years i realised this type of music didnt fill me up.Artsy and *intellectual* music with shit lyrics says nothing to me.its not genuine enough.
So darker stuff became my thing. And Anathema was the most expressive band i could find. After some years this and goes out and worships Radiohead(!!!!).I was ready to jump off the building.Eventually,i stopped listening to Radiohead...
i suppose you like the stuff from alternative 4, so i suppose i can see your point. thats not who we are now is it? not seeing as dunc wrote 60% of it.

and the part about radiohead and portishead not being worth a hair of our head. that is utter shite i am sorry to say. confident...but wrong. they are obviously talented innovative artists who have done fucking incredible albums. ok computer and dummy beats any album of mdb or anathema ever did. hands down. thats why they sold millions. not because they were trendy. because they were brilliant. thats not to say dunc didn't do the business, but ok computer beats even him.

as for having a complex about not being metal...wrong again. there is no complex whatsoever. we are not metal, we do not write metal songs and it is as simple as that.. not complex at all, see?

pretty hard to write metal when you write more than half your stuff on a keyboard like.

but then again opinions are like assholes everybodies got one.

Ok computer is brilliant but I don't like every second of it, i'm not too keen on fitter happier, track 7. I think you underestimate Judgement, I like every second of that album and it's an amazing sound going on there. I dare not call it better than all the great albums out there like ok computer, but I dare to call it my favourite. I can't hopnestly see why I can't say judgement isn't as good as an album like ok computer, I think it is

i do like stuff like alt 4 and the older albums.i accept them band's new identity,as i said i can not help the situation.i fully repsect the artistic way the band has chosen.and i do prove it by following the band in every way possible.

as for the controversial bands,i believe and it is also a fact that they belong to a genre more compatible to the majority of ppl who prefer easy listening stuff.Even my granny can like it.Thats why they sold millions.im not doubting about their talent, originality etc as those two bands influenced many.If Anathema was "easy listening" they would have sold millions too!

and about metal, numerous are the times when you said the band doesnt want to do anything with metal or sth.if you now say you're not complexed about it tho, then i cant say anything more...

in my humble opinion... nothing can beat (at least a few) anathema albums. i've heard a few songs of radiohead and none of them made good impression on me. (i can't even name their titles now). we all have different tastes, we all are different. even if you think radiohead is much better than anathema, i bet there are loads of people that will tell you that nothing (or at least not radiohead) is better than anathema.

i think they sold millions because they had good promotion&distribution and obviously there was a few million people that liked it and wanted to buy it. other things are just a matter of taste.
btw, not every brillant band sold millions, and not every band that sold millions is brilliant.

it should be quoted in each "reviews" thread.

come on sopel. first thing you need to score is a lot of talent. and then people with long arms who can set you on the way.

today i walked over at 4 cd stores, all had natural disaster on the front glass,i guess thats an improvement on promotion stuff.
well danny its not about metal i think.its more like we all have in mind the past works and long for sth to live up to our expectations, simple as that. eg,on the previous albums,i dont hate a single song,on this one i can say that for a few, some are ok but i think its a pity for my standards at least.

eg2,why tf should balance end this way??? :)

ps:if we can say pulled under resembles to sheep, doesnt closer remind you the prayer in the middle of the same song?''the lord is my sheperd..."
anyway,i keep the good moments and wait for the next one :)
