Im glad ' pressure' was never released, personnaly, i think its awful, its the ONLY anathema song i actively dislike, frankly i think its shite and sounds nothing like anathema! as far as im concerned AFDTE starts on track 2!

Thats just my opinion though, so no need to crucify me for it!

yeah but the 'problem' with this one is that it's Lee singing. It would not be representative of Anathema as a single and people could feel tricked when they buy the album after.
what's wrong with that? they'd have a pleasant surprise!!

Maybe yes, maybe not. Most of them would expect Lee to be the main singer of the band I guess. It would not be very honest to do that but maybe I'm wrong, that's just the way I see it. Flying seems more accurate for me ;)

one of massive attack's biggest hits has female vocals but she's not in the band. :)

One point for you indeed, but Sol is right too, Anathema do have an official lead singer. And moreover this song would label them as a band ala Portishead which they are not at all. Respect to Portishead though.

who cares what they get labelled.. it's better than still being associated with fucking goth-metal. I remember reading reviews of Eternity and Alternative 4 and there were even references to fucking Sisters of Mercy in there for fucks sake! Anathema deserve better than that. the point is, they need to break into the mainstream(not saying they should actually go mainstream or commercial) one way or another. I'm surprised that it hasn't happened so far.

what pisses me off more is the fact that people like Cradle of Filth whose music actually has no mainstream appeal whatsoever (who also were influenced by Anathema, opened for Anathema in early 90's, and even covered Sleepless) are signed to a major label and are rich now and Anathema are still stuck playin to goth tossers in mean fiddler, with an idiot always shouting shouting "Sleepless" throughout the whole gig (me, I don't care.. I was fortunate enough to see Darren singing it so I'm satisfied with that heheheh)

also I remember seeing Inme supporting Anathema once, and then they got bigger as well thanks to being hyped up by Kerrang etc.

just how the fuck can the most stupid band in the world aka The Darkness go on the cover of Metal Hammer and Anathema's album gets 7/10 & includes a reference to "gothic-cloaked doom". god, I hate rock/metal press.. they don't know shit. even Terrorizer, which I used to respect for being open-minded, gave A Fine Day to Exit 7.5/10 and said it's too Radiohead or whatever (I actually know the reviewer, he works at my local music shop the fucker)

i guess nowadays to be popular you either need to wear catsuits and sing like a fag or you need to be black and jump around like a monkey talking gibberish.

Ah yeah I get what you mean, really. I feel the same. But still I think a song like Flying would be best as a single. It really represents Anathema. So people who would buy the album after hearing it are most eager to like the whole album and buy the others. On the other hand, people who would listent to the title track are eager to be disapointed by the album and never buy anything else by anathemas so it would be a failure, no 'commercial' breakthrough

yeah I get what you mean too. but Flying as a single? hmm, not too sure. if it was the previous album I'd say Release and Panic would make great singles. but with this one it's difficult cos different songs will appeal to different audiences as I said before.

Anathema has always been an album band, and nowadays music's more about hits. if the music scene was like this in the 70's then bands like Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, Pink Floyd etc wouldn't get anywhere cos they were more "album" bands, just like Anathema.

talking about a song that would best represent Anathema, I couldn't help think of Led Zeppelin(who happen to me my most favourite band, closely followed by Anathema). let me explain. you cannot say an acoustic song off Led Zep III totally represents what they were about, just like a big influence on Maiden and Megadeth such as "Achilles Last Stand" didn't totally represent Led Zep's music, neither did a reggae track like D'yer M'ker. But at the end of the day it was still them, it's another side of them. just like "A Natural Disaster" is still Anathema, it's still a part of what they do. or the robotic sounding "Closer". or the chillout"Are You There", or the heavy metal of "Pulled Under".

Yeah, I'm harsh. Tough love and all... ...Though I am amazed to see not everyone took a swing at me, cheap shots or otherwise.

Disappointment is probably not the best mood to type carefully chosen words in, nor the best for keeping a cheerful tone, but I believe my position is at least understandable: I am not happy with the album after having waited so long for it. I am genuinely displeased with the production and the seemingly minimalistic approach and mindset; I feel A Natural Disaster lacks distinguishing features, so it just sounds anonymous and ultimately pointless to me.. I want things more intricate and fleshed out! The idea that Anathema might continue in this direction really upsets me.

In retrospect the earlier posts have a more negative tone than I probably intended.. If I came off as too "hateful" or whatever, I'll just make it abundantly clear that I mean no disrespect to Danny boy when I critique his work. I bet no one reads what I type way down here.

well, i agree with Bambi on this one. Everyone has the opportunity to say whatever they feel, and if you got disappointed Intet, i'm sorry for you. I don't flame you for that cause i have some critique points either, so i kinda understand you. Though i don't really think people here, at least most, judge you for saying that you don't like AND, well i hope they don't.
that's my two cents.

Well, I don't really care if anyone else likes it or not. You can not discuss about such a thing, it's pointless!

I like the album though, every song on it is a great one for me. The only problem I have with AND is that there should have been at least two more real songs on it. I like instrumentals, but now there's only 8 real songs, should have been more in my eyes...

without the instrumentals, there is more than 40 minutes of music... A4 have 45

i think a single should be represent to the album, to answer someones question. it should be for anathema cause theyre unknown. so why picking out '2000 meters' then. do you want people to be dissapointed with the rest of the album?

Hm, dissappointed??? Why that??? Isn't it all about different opinions???
Btw. a single should be able to reach ppl that doesn't know them yet... so, you think they will be dissappointed with 2000 metres a second? Well...
