Give me classical music tips

so what are you guys saying? ... i'm wrong?

Nope. Classical folks are essentially old/rich/educated (?) folks and there is no doubt that the market as we know it, is doomed.

I think that if music is to survive (all music that is), the decline of the physical support will benefit to modern creation, new live shows and new ways of sharing the experience.

The main problem is that people think it's not for them essentially.

In Paris, if you're under 28 you can get 9€ tickets for ALL gigs of a season if you book at least 5. And then you have lossless formats like FLAC, APE and so on : perfect sound quality for free - if you feel like saving money on CDs. You need good speakers though :D

I have decided to invite a couple of friends to attend a few concerts, so they can then form their own opinion.

We'll see how it goes

Piano Trio No.2

This was written just after his best friend died. Also, note the SQ#8 quoted in the 4th movement. (actually the other way around since SQ#8 quoted this, and n a number of his other pieces, but you know what I mean, son)

Shostakovitch made some great symphonic stuff too

Check that shit out

youtube comments are always a goldmine...
"it sounds like Nazi mechanized columns on the advance, artfully portrayed by Shostakovich with all the brutal bombast one would associate with a primitive barbarian invasion"
lol, true enough actually

LOL, yeah. I'm not too big on the symphonic end of the spectrum. Give me chamber music anytime.

The Piano Quintet is fantastic too, I just cant be arsed to find a good version on youtube.

That trio is deeply moving. Another proof that when the world's going to shit, true artists are the ones holding shit together.

Here, you asked for chamber music:

seen the same concert live in Nantes with the same musicians 3 weeks ago, felt lifted skywards by the balls.

Bela Bartok. His 4th quartet is my favorite. That is the final movement of 5. If you're interested, get the Takacs Quartet cycle.

Also, do check out Shostakovich's 8th Quartet. You won't be disappointed. Trust me.

the only piece of "classical" (quotations because its actually contemporary) music I've ever really gotten into is Gorecki's Symphony No. 3. It's so emotional, particularly the first movement. Any recommendations based on that?
