GMD Poll: Top 10 Metal Albums of 1983

Dio at 7 is a joke.

it's arguably the album most indebted to rock music on this list so i'm not sure why mr. "metal becomes purer the further it strays from rock music" is batting its corner

personally i like some tunes on HOLY DIVER plenty but i've never taken to it the way i love, say, the title track of HEAVEN AND HELL or my favourite rainbow songs, for whatever reason.

How are the two notions incompatible? Just because something becomes purer, it doesn't mean it's de facto better. Holy Diver is phenomenal for what it is: a set of authentic, emotive, and catchy, mainstream metal songs. They are farily simple and direct, but absolutely nail the formula. It just aboub perfects what it aimed to achieve.

it would've got 6th by half a point. instead, he put europe 3rd and more than doubled its total score, guaranteeing it not only double figures but a spot in the overall top 20.

What a fucking amazing album. Nothing else on the list really peaks quite as high as that album and then have songs like Feeling Free Again and The Ram. There is just something magical about CL that really sets it above and beyond nearly everything. It's weird, wickedly catchy, and something to behold. It also has one of the coolest album arts ever.

Don't know why so many idiots in here are complaining like a bunch of faggots, this list would have been good no matter what because 1983 was both a very strong year and a year with not that many releases.
