GMD Votes: Top 10 OSDM albums

I'm sure things would be a lot different if we were allowed to name an unlimited amount of albums from each band. Only being allowed to list two kind of fucks things up. I probably would've put at least 3-4 Death albums on my list.
I wanted to prevent that. I didn't want the top 10 to be 5 MA albums and 5 Death albums. That shit is boring.

I'll do the same thing for the thrash thread but won't have a time cutoff.

It eliminated Death from the top 10 entirely though. Because we couldn't agree on which were the top 2 Death albums. Because they have so many good albums.

Maybe if we went by band instead of album, there wouldn't be a need to list 5 Death albums.

Still I don't see the point of the restriction. If Death has 5 of the best death metal albums, then let them be on the list 5 times.

They fucking don't though. Symbolic, Human, Scream Bloody Gore, Leprosy, and Spiritual Healing aren't 5 of the top ten death metal albums ever made. That fanboy crap skews the voting even more. Death isn't that big on this board, they just aren't. Never have been in the entire time I've been here. Evidence of that? Two Incantation albums legitimately made the list.

Edited for error correction

I'm listening to the albums I haven't heard yet now. After a preliminary listen and reflection upon it, I'll re-listen and change my list.

edit: Thus far, I'm not getting all of the love for The Chasm. They sound like a local band that I would go bananas for, but not a quality band when compared to the greats.

I like Deathcult for the atmosphere and uniqueness, but I don't get the hype either. I'd much rather go to other bands or albums for my death metal fix.

Don't be a dick. People have different opinions, and you should respect that.

He's plantkin, man. Pay him no heed.

Death, Deicide or maybe even Carcass would have naturaly made it to the top 10 if it wasn't for the formed kvlt music taste around here and I think I know what's to blame.. it's that controvertial opinions thread where all hipsters can come to a conclusion a universally mediocre album is actually very fun because it shit on everything else lel

My English is not that well but I'm not sure if you're too dumb to get the point was exactly to make it as dumb as it actually sounds or you just have this dumbest way to pick on non-native English speakers' English.

*grabs popcorn*

Given the top 10, here is how I rank them:

1 Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten
2 Immolation - Dawn of Possession
3 Demigod - Slumber of Sullen Eyes
4 Incantation - Onward to Golgotha
5 Demilich - Nespithe
6 Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
7 Incantation - Mortal Throne of Nazarene
8 Pestilence - Consuming Impulse
9 The Chasm - Deathcult for Eternity: The Triumph
10 Autopsy - Mental Funeral

Don't get the hype for Autopsy either

I'm not sure if that's as dumb as it sounds or you just don't speak English that well.

I fucking nearly passed out laughing at this. Ha!

I personally wouldn't have had Autopsy in even my top 30. Not that they suck, but top ten of all time is ludicrous.

I'm a Chasm fanboy, so I understand that its not the same for everyone. They're just a refreshing change in style.
The comment about the controversial opinions thread is pretty spot on. I think that single thread has a lot of influence on peoples taste. Especially you newer kids and your hipster metal ways.

Eligos I'll excuse because he's always had eclectic taste, with or without this forum.

They're big enough if just about everyone here had a Death album in their top 10. You just have a few twats here who are pretty vocal about their hate for the band. And fanboy or not, all five of those albums you mentioned are fucking top notch death metal. But i guess that's such an untrvue opinion and only comes from their fanboys right?

And while i have too many other albums i fuckin love to put em' all in my top 10, every one of those five would make it to my top 20 list. That's what makes them the greatest death metal band of all time.

And honestly, if two Incantation albums can make that list, then i would have no problem with seeing 5 death albums on there as well.... that would actually be far more legit than having two Incantation albums on a fucking top 10 list.

Death >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Incantation

edit: You should have named this thread "UMF favorite death metal albums" cuz this sure in the hell isn't anywhere near being a top ten list, that's without a doubt.

The Chasm – Deathcult for Eternity: The Triumph
Demigod – Slumber of Sullen Eyes
Pestilence – Consuming Impulse
Demilich – Nespithe
Morbid Angel – Altars of Madness
Autopsy – Mental Funeral
Immolation – Dawn of Possession
Incantation – Onward to Golgotha
Incantation – Mortal Throne of Nazarene
Suffocation – Effigy of the Forgotten

Incantation is most definitely the more superior band. Especially considering they didn't become gay.

Also, John McEntee is still alive, so...point to them again.

Too soon?

Incantation is like a deep dish pizza, thick tasty and full of substance
Death - Symbolic and onward especially - is a bowl of buttered noodles - no substance, and only tastes good if you've had no other food ever

Fuck, I'm fairly happy calling Incantation the best death metal band ever, given their discography.
