GMD Votes: Top 20 Traditional/Doom Albums

You can't judge the album on just a chorus, especially since others on the list have poppy and/or simplistic choruses on occasion as well. Sorcerers, Angel of Death, White Witch, Atlantis, Gorgon, all great songs.

Man I just listened to the first 10, how can you recommend that stuff? People aren't going to value everything you say when you do that.

What's your top5 on that list?

I ranked that Angel Witch album a little lower, but just because of the big chunk of my favorites ahead of it. Awesome album.

It's not in order yet, I'm still compiling lists from the 80's then I'll arrange the orders (at least the top 10).

Top 10 from 2014 would be roughly:

Exmortus
Foreseen
Reek
Iron Reagan
Ripper
Torrential Downpour
Algebra
Pripjat
Reactory
Mekong Delta

As I've said before, I'm including C or better thrash, anything passable not just the best. It's more to show an overview of the history of thrash, And I plan to have a voting round for each year so it helps to have more options to vote from.

At least after listening to these you can see why I wouldn't like Angel Witch.

Right it's new so all 80 of those must suck without even listening to them. Fuck you and that attitude. Exmortus' last album is musically better than anything Angel Witch ever did or even strove to do.

[EDIT]

Guess I just like crap then!

Eh man I just don't think we have similar tastes at all on thrash. Reagan, Reactory, and I think reek were in the first 10.

Exmortus has cool riffs and all that but some legit vokills

'angel witch' is one of the most perfect metal songs ever written. i even like the football chant these days, it creates tension that's released into the gorgeous solo that follows. i get shivers every time i hear the first 10 seconds of that song now. loads of the best '80s metal is a little cheesy or, y'know, fun - this song is no different from, say, 'the ripper' in that respect.

that album is also a lot more consistent than people give it credit for - i know 'confused' and to a lesser extent 'sweet danger' could be construed as filler but the rest is gold. and it's SUPER original, nothing sounds like them even now, let alone in 19motherfucking80 - a lot of the more ethereal/mystical bands on the overall list owe them a debt. 'sorceress' is absolutely undeniable, one of the crowning jewels of trad doom. 100% deserved to make the list.

It's called a typo. I barely have time to check the forums much less to play stupid games like that.

Also, I agree with Baroque. The last 5 albums on my list I don't even listen to. I appreciate and see Jag Panzer as a classic but it gets zero plays from me.
If you make a list and haven't listened to all the albums on it, it's fucking pointless. I'm not counting it in the overall data because it will skew it. Same goes for Baroque's choices.

Yeah, like anyone is suppose to know if you were drinking or not.

Seriously, you can be such an asshole sometimes and when you are called out on it you turn into an even bigger asshole. Not cool. I don't have to explain the validity of whether I have or haven't listen to the albums posted because anyone who thinks otherwise is fucking dumb. I have heard all those albums before, just the last 5 on my list I "don't" really listen to and as a result haven't heard in the last few months (except Holy Diver).

If you don't count it it would be bullshit as I was probably about the fourth person to post their list and so far it doesn't seem like my list is that far off from most people here. Whatever, do what you want, i'll just not post in your threads again if you're going to put up stupid rules and not count voters for arbitrary reasons.

Edit: Reading this and the past few ones like this, people have contributed not only without hearing albums before but also without hearing them in a long time. If you're going to be ridiculous with rules like that then you should do it across the board and not just with me and apparently Baroque (though i haven't came across his list yet).

Edit: found his list. Nothing wrong with it (other than it being unlike most voters) you're just being ridiculous.

I misinterpreted the post. Sorry.

I explained in another one of these posts/threads why it's important to listen to all the albums. There were some people who explicitly indicated that, out of 20 albums, they had only listened to 10 of them and proceeded to rank all 20 albums. THAT skews results. That's what I thought was happening and I was wrong. I apologize again.

I can't even vote right now because I've only listened to maybe a third to half the albums on the list and haven't even had the motivation to listen to the rest.

I'm working my way through the ones I haven't heard today. I don't see anything special about that Trouble album. A few nice Sabbath rip-off moments and a lot of other pedestrian stuff. Definitely at the bottom of my list thusfar.

Yeah Psalm 9 rules man..give it some more spins. If the Tempter doesn't give you a boner, then I don't know what's up

If this one play doesn't give it to ya, then give up!

But maybe you'll like The Skull/Run to the Light/Trouble album(s) since they are a little differently musically. This is probably the thrashiest doom album I can think of
