Guitar Player's Thread

Yup, I sold my Lee Jackson and my Marshall DSL and got a buttload of cash to buy a new amp and new desktop for recording.
I still have a Peavey classic 1x12 combo that is real convenient and sounds real sweet (especially with a tube screamer!)

Cant wait for the e530! It's got a lot of great features. One extra thing that seems real cool to me is that it has a built-in mini poweramp that can power a cab by itself pretty loud from what I've heard!

I'm really excited though. I haven't had an amp that can do good metal tones without an overdrive or something else since I owned a Mesa Recto, and even then I wasn't really digging the character of the Recto's tone so I think this will be the first amp that I'm really happy with.

Plus its going to be a beast for recording direct with impulses

If ENGL didnt have fucking terrible clean and crunch/sliiightly overdriven sound, i'd actually consider them, but of the 5 different models ive tried, they all stunk at that, doesn't cut it for me.

I've actually managed to get a pretty nice tone from the engl powerball model featured on the metal shop for pod. it has that exact amount of crunch that i love, and yeah, i guess it is sliiightly overdriven, but it still sounds pretty sick.

I decided, all of a sudden, that I would try to play some guitar today. So I found tabs for:
- Deathstars - Death dies hard
- Deathstars - Blitzkrieg
and
- Volbeat - I only wanna be with you

I thought to myself that this HAVE TO BE some songs even I can manage to play. And I did!! I got so happy!
So from now on, I think I'll set of time during the day to play some more guitar. Like I've said before, I haven't much of patience
but when I DO see progress in my guitarplaying, I get really excited and want to learn more.

I'm not sure how many megadeth fans there are here
but heres their new song if you haven't heard it already.

i think its pretty good, but not OHMYGOD great.

the guitarist in my band had a pod pro whatever floor model and the "angel" or whatever model sucked dick

that's because line 6 does a shitty job at emulating the sound of specific amps. They just imply that it's supposed to sound like it by giving it a similar name and it doesn't lol

@ 1:20 the crunch channel sounds beautiful to me, but thats just my opinion.

Besides cleans aren't what I'm buying an ENGL for

Good for you :) I would be like your friend. I get really star struck at first and just talk absolute bollocks but after about 5 minutes I usually calm down then I'm able to talk to them like they're just normal people (which they are)

Paul Gilbert is a legend, so jealous :worship:

But you had a long talk with Mr. Awesome Roope Latvala, you lucky fucker!

yeah, I know what you mean. I'm just like you when I met Alexi. I was blabbing out all this bullshit, like telling him he's my hero and this and that, I was really nervous. I think it depends on the personality of the person (the guitar hero in this case) of who you're talking to. Like Paul has none of that rock star attitude that Alexi carries. I mean, Alexi doesn't flaunt it or anything, but there's still major difference in attitudes between Paul and Alexi. Paul seems like more of the everyday, natural person to talk to. With Alexi, it doesn't really feel that way at first. Or maybe this is just from my perspective. who knows.

I guess it really depends on you. If I met say James Heithfield I wouldn't feel awkward at all (I'd probably end up asking what happened with St. Anger and THEN it'd get awkward ) because even though I like some Metallica songs, I'm not a big Metallica fan at all. But if I met Alexi or Steve Vai I'm afraid I'd feel quite weird  But that's because I'm an Alexi fanboi and because Vai is Vai, if a so-called Cannibal Corpse fan (the ones that went to COB's European tour and left after CC) met Alexi he'd probably punch him in the face for taking CC as support act on their last European tour.

It's going to be nice to hear. When are you getting it?

@ Lowberg
ENGL pre-amps rocks!

I'm sure it'll sound killer!
Actually the ENGL + power amp setups I've heard sounded better than any of their heads. And I like their heads.

on another note: have anyone tried Rotosound strings?

I just bought a pack of 11s yesterday 'cus I heard Guthrie used them, and that they produced them themselves. I became tired of the inconsistensy I found the Ernie Balls to have, and I also felt like going a gauge up (10s to 11s) and they sound fucking awesome!
Cranked my Lee Jackson XLS-500 with a TC Electronics Triple C compressor infront yesterday and it's like a thicker! version of Jeff Becks tone on Live At Ronnie Scotts but with more sustain. God, it kicks ass!
Even through the microcube the difference was extremely notable.

Plus, there's an extra 1st string in each pack! I always break them .

I don't think I'll go any higher than 11s in E Standard because bending and legato and such is do able - but I can't imagine it would be good with 12s .
Also, I need my harmonics (IA slap harmonics r teh greatests).
