Guitar Player's Thread

If you have the extra cash, (not that much extra) get a regular Line 6 POD.
It has the same capabilities as the Pod Studio/Toneport but you can plug it into an amp cab/home speaker system and use it as an amp head

If you'd do it I think I'd seriously consider it. I'd like to record with mics and all but they'll kill me at home if I crank my amp and mic it

Hi!

I was thinking of purchasing some new recording equipment (for example Line6 POD or something) and I was thinking if you guys could recommend something and tell a bit about your equipment and what's good/bad. Maybe even upload some soundclips or something?

If you want easy then Toneport. Buy, install Gearbox, plug and play with pretty decent tones. If you're looking after very precise and realistic sounds or don't want digital, then go as Snowy said for a good mic preamp and a nice mic. But you need a good head and cab to record from then.

I recorded the following video with Toneport and Gearbox.

If you end up getting it we can share some presets with you so you don't have to start from scratch, as imho Gearbox own presets pretty much suck.

It's pretty much yours but with some editing and then some compressors in Audition, but sure, gimme a second to rar the 2 or 3 versions of it that I have :)

BTW, I had my guitar tuned to D standard so all the chords don't have the 6th string, is just the 4th and 5th

I pretty much have this down, except for that last pentatonic run at the end. don't have the speed in my fingers for that yet.

@Epi: if you want to use the line6 product for more than just recording, then go for the pod. I have the pod xt with the metal shop, and it's proving to be pretty nice.

so is the UXT basically like a UX1 minus the laptop part for live shows?
I have my UX1 outputted into my Marshall stack but I guess if I wanted to gig with it I'd need to take my laptop.
Like fudge I'd do that.

I wouldn't play live with a Toneport, but I've played with my Korg AX1500G live many times. I plug it into an amp, but the sound (distortion, effects, eq, etc) is given by the pedalboard. Now I have the ADA MP1 and the Rocktron Velocity so I'm done using the pedalboard, but I did use it and didn't sound half bad. Much better than my old Randall head actually.

EDIT: On other news, is the Edge Pro 7 a good bridge? I really need a versatile guitar (read I can play most stuff and I don't miss frets or strings and have an overall nice sound for pretty much everything) atm for a couple of extra bands I'm playing in so I'm serioulsy considering the Ibanez RG1527. I know the V7 and V8 are pretty nice and I know about the awesome Ibanez necks, but I'm not sure about the Edge Pro as I never tried it. Is it good? I know it's the same Vai uses, but Vai has a tech to do it all for himself after every show, so my question is, is it reliable? I do need some help on this as there's no way I can try it beforehand in my town or around, so please help me out here.

Congrats! Is a really nice bit to play. Work on the pentatonic, it's kinda hard (I actually fucked it up ) but it's nice.

I have an edge, and the only thing I've noticed about it getting to work efficiently is that I have to stretch the strings really well before locking the nuts. But I'm guessing that actually goes for all tremolo systems. and I bet most people who complan about Edge bridges are failing to do this.

lol yeah, but your fuck up is hardly noticeable cuz it's so damn fast!

I won't  But if Jani or Chris broderick or crazyvibrato Vai use it I guess it's not all bad, wouldn't it?

I had an Edge III myself, and while it's true that it kept the tuning pretty well, I couldn't do much tremelo stuff (e.g. fluttering) because the tremolo bar is quite loose and gets easily loosened if you try tightening it, so I want to know if there are differences between both :)

 Well, may be because I played it, but it automaticaly clicks a "fuck you crapped it" button inside my brain. I'm still pretty proud of it though, particularly of the slow part and the arpeggios :D

I have a crappy edge II I think on my RG and it sucks so bad but I'm guessing thats because its the cheap bridge and also it's all rusted and worn out

also, slide guitar blues is so much fun
