Guitar Player's Thread

If you want a floyd guitar just dive right in to floyd-territory and get one. People who bought their first floyd guitar all had to learn from the ground up how to set it up.

Even if somebody did a lot of research and watched instructional videos of how to set one up before they bought their first one, I highly doubt they were able to do it effortlessly the first time.

When I first got my Jackson 5 years ago It was such a pain in the ass to set up the trem for a while but you learn from experience and now I can do a complete string change of all 6 strings and tuning in 15 min

You can do it!

first the person who wants to be an ULTRA SHRED00RZZ

just fucking practice a shitload, honestly there's not much more to it.....

Yea dude I do, but im not sure with what I should practice, usually when I practice guitar its songs that I wanna learn, some arpeggios, and some other random stuff that I believe help improve my technique.. Is that a good setlist to practice?

Yeah its just a sticker, still the same instruments

Ok thanks heaps :D Coz I saw one recently from a distance and I was like "wtf's that sticker >_<" and now I know, so yea, thanks heaps :D

yeah thats some good stuff to practice, just always play things that test your abilities, start out with some warmups, then play some songs you like then work on technique. do some metronome work etc. its basically just PLAYING not even building up technique
i havn't really been trying to hard on improving my technique but last night i was dicking around and remembered the soung "out of the ashes" by symphony x and i really wanted to learn the intro a long time ago, i played it last night and it was practically spot on and its all pretty intricate picking stuff and i was like HOLY SHIT, awesome

^ Dude, Symphony X songs are bitchy. I was trying to learn "sea of lies" but can't quite get it up to speed, just sounds like crap. Maybe it's a bit easier to do on guitar? No idea

I more or less learned the intro from the song, but I got stuck on that crazy fast arpeggio part in the middle before the actual solo. Maybe someday...

But yeah, the guy has some crazy technique that I'm not even gonna attempt to work up to.

yeah they were my favorite band for a loooong time and they're still one of my favorites. and michael is one of my personal gods, i met him when they came through town and he was the coolest guy ever, just sat around shootin the shit about guitar for 30 minutes

so your saying that over time after playing shit constantly, you'll just get better without realising it? i mean, yea i guess thats sorta true, the first cob song i wanted to learn was bed of razors and i couldnt even play the intro let alone the chorus, now its like easy as lol. and lawl HOLY SHIT, awesome :p

anyways, thanks heaps man :)

Nov 11th, and the battle of the bands is Nov 19th

So we are pretty crunched for time

Exactly. Playing (whatever you play) keeps you going and you start improving. And then you find that playing that same thing in another certain way sounds better, or that with that pick atack or fingering that is easier.

E.g. when I first attempted diminished arpegios I was like "WTF how do I play this shit to get it as clean as Mitch (yes, he was the first one who came to my mind )?" and after a short time I gave up. I've tried again recently and I'm still ages away from getting them that clean, but now they sound recognisable at moderate speeds.

lol both you and fop totally missed eveningninja's point. don't just practice, but analyze how you are practicing. fix the mistakes, then only will you progress. what's the point of practicing if you're practicing incorrectly.

lol thanks man :) now im gonna search up diminished arpeggios :D btw, does/did anyone take lessons for guitar? atm i am but im finding them pretty pointless >_<

^^ Lessons are shit. I keep saying this, and idk if anyone has caught on or even read my pointless point, but....everyone has a different way of learning and playing and hearing and all of the most important parts of music. No one can effectively teach another person to play music, since once the lessons are over a person will have always play in the way they learned, or learn a new style all over, whereas as if you learn your own style from the beginning, you'll always be goodie goodie.

You got the wrong part. The diminished arpeggios were the first thing that came to my mind of something I dropped to take up later and realize I had improved without playing that exact thing. I could have said pentatonic scale too.

The point was that if you get stuck with something and it drives you crazy because you can't pull it off then drop it, keep playing and a couple of months later try again. If it works, awesome, if not, drop it for another couple of months or so.
