Guitar Player's Thread

If you're lucky enough to have a good ear it will come easy but some of us need explaining of what exactly is going on.

Even if you do have a good ear, it generally helps to understand why some things work and others don't. Plus, theory makes for great shortcuts, and make sensible communication b/w musicians possible. Trying to write music w/o theory is like trying to solve a quadratic equation by plugging in random #s rather than using the known formula.

@Altitudes: Good playing, the contest doesn't make the selection criteria very clear, but if it's simply by technical skills then you should win or get pretty close. Also, that's a sweet guitar you have, I wanna buy a Schechter for myself as well when I get serious about learning to play.

I once heard a quote that went something like this:

1. (first) Learn the rules
2. (then) Study from the masters
3. (finally) Forget the rules

At the end of the day, whether or not you follow "rules" doesn't matter. But having knowledge of them is an important step in the process. Some think theory is restricting, however I think it does the exact opposite. Having more knowledge simply grants you more freedom.

Completely agree.
Music theory helps you transcribe the musical ideas that are in your head.
I find it extremely important when it comes to composing music.

Agile 828 Intrepid Dual Darkburst

Plays, looks, and sounds gorgeous. :)

They are made in china (in the same factory that makes guitars for either epiphone or ltd i cant remember which).

Basically the way it works is big guitar companies contract with these independent guitar factories to make their overseas guitars, and rondomusic has a contract with one of these factories to make their designs, except since you aren't paying for the brand you are getting the same quality guitar at a much lower price

Because rondo is such a small company run by a few ppl, their quality control check is not as thorough as a larger guitar company who might have a whole department of like 50 people doing complete quality checks on every guitar.

Also expect to do an action setup yourself.

Having said that, 1/10 times you might get something with a minor imperfection that they missed, but they are VERY VERY good with returns/replacements, Kurt the guy who owns rondomusic will email with you personally to get the problem solved.

He really cares that his customers are satisfied, and even collaborates with them on the agile forums on ideas for new designs and short run customs.

Mine was immaculate, low action, it was even in tune and intonated, which I totally didn't expect. Guess i got lucky, lol
And Agile's are made in South Korea, not China.

I have another one coming, due December, pretty much the same, except seethru white with ebony fretboard, neckthru and active pu's. Gonna be nice

Go on whichever one is cheaper IMO

Yeah I'll probably snag whichever I find for a nice deal first. Thanks for the input guise.

This. I'd compare Agiles to LTD-1000's (I'm a pretty big fan of LTD), at least from the ones I've played.

I agree completely. I've emailed tons of questions and requests to Kurt and he always gets back to me, and was great dealing with when I ordered my 7-string custom Reaper. A wonderful guy really. Between my friend and I having had great experiences, I can honestly put my full trust in Rondo.

Lawsuit guitars - very good quality in fact.

They named a town in Japan 'Usa' so they could write - Made In USA

Check out these Chinese RR's for ~ $300

A friend tells me his friend got a Les Paul from xiaoming zuo's store looks and weighs like the real thing and it plays awesome, he enquired about a strat and wanted custom detailing done, abalone inlays, etc. they told him it would be expensive ~ $400 delivered.

Les Pauls

Malmsteen strat Edit: Here they get it wrong, as far as I know all Malmsteen strats had a brass nut, not a locking one.

This is all hearsay, I can't vouch for their quality but at that price it's probably pretty good for a beginner.

^I feel tempted to buy that Yngwie strat

I've got an '88 orig U.S.A. model.

The Chinese also get the truss rod wrong.

...and the tremelo.

It's basically just a scalloped strat with signature headstock but it's a good price for one regardless.

Edit: even more Yngwie's here:

can i trust ali express ....?? it good website ?

Ali Express is a database, similar to ebay.

It's the sellers you have to question. From what I heard xiaoming zuo's store supplied good Les Paul copies. I didn't see the guitars he was talking about so I can't verify it.

I know that labour is very cheap in China and sometimes they use cheap materials unless a customer/company tells them what to use and how to spec the product.

The saying goes, 'you get what you pay for' but having said that I hear Gibson USA Les Pauls aren't as good quality as they used to be.

There are also plenty of vids on youtube of Chinese guitars.

There are some horror stories too so you have to do a bit of research to find who the better suppliers are.

Chinese Guitars? Good or Bad??
