Guitar Player's Thread

shit im glad you brought this stuff up

im a proud owner of a 5150 myself :)

as for tubes...

i'd go with the brand jj

power tubes: 6l6
preamp tubes:12ax7's

but you can most likely just stick with the power tubes and replace the preamp tubes, theres not much oint to getting extremely nice power tubes because your not cranking it past 7 all the time

heres some good sites to buy some t00bz

this obviously sounds like a standard 5150, the guy doesnt know what the fuck he's talking about. the difference between the 5150 and 5150II is that the 5150II has a separate eq channel for the clean. but other than that not much difference, the 5150 actually has a bit more gain and bite than the 5150II. so most likely by what you described its the 5150, its fucking ace though id recommend it totally :)

how much is he asking?

Awesome, thanks. And he's looking for around 650-700.

And it did have a separate EQ channel for the clean, so I don't know. Either way I'd be happy, whether it's a II or not.

EDIT: After doing some research on the supposed "EVH signature" version, I think the tubes it has in there are Sovtek.

@Muffen: I tried TuneXP when you posted the link! Was pretty neat, shutdown went alot faster, but I don't think my bootup went especially faster.

Usually those program tend to end the running process of a program. they don't finish the program properly rather like when you shut down a task in the task manager manually. It's slightly the same why you should not turn off your pc by pulling the plug (there are other arguments against that too...).

You can delete any auto start of a program on windows startup. Your computer will boot much faster but you'd have to wait longer when you want to start a specific programm. Start > run > msconfig.

Hey, does anyone happen to know what a full re-tube would cost for a 5150 II? I found a great deal on a used one in almost pristine condition, but it's had the tubes replaced for ones I've never even heard of but are apparently "military grade", and don't sound all that great to me. Personally, I'd prefer 6l6's in there. Still, money is tight and I have no idea what this would cost.

Well, look it up on thomann? I had to switch out the powertubes and it cost me 35€ or something. Then again I have a 50 Watter so It was only 2 tubes. Basically, you are going to get raped.

If it has a separate EQ channel then it's definitely a 5150II, maybe he rubbed his penis against the II mark too long and it wore away.

How's life in finland? :p...

Nice vid Noel, and nice playing too.
Thank you!! :)
Great! Really good playing! How did you do the first video ...dingens... effect (when it went from big to small)? You also use Sony Vegas, or?

Thanks a lot!! It really means a lot to me when such good players like you guys say pretty stuff like that

Yeah, I used Sony Vegas 8 with a free script called VASST PIPselection for the split screen effects.

Nice playing there!

Are you using different video and audio for that? Or is what you see what you play?

1. Put your solo/second video track under the main track
2. Split the main track where you want it to start zooming out by pressing "S". Also split it where you want it to end the zooming
3. Right click the split section, pan/crop
4. Make a new keyframe where you want the zoom-out to stop
5. At that keyframe, edit the window to desired dimensions
6. Make a new keyframe to the point where you want it to zoom in again (just create one, don't do anything else)
7. Right click one of your unedited clips, copy the first keyframe
8. Go into split clip again and paste the keyframe at the end

:)

I didn't know you were that good Noel! :kickass:

Thank you very much :')

I honestly don't know

I started that video a while back, I was recording with the camera and on Audition at the same time, and I mixed the audio first with the best takes of each part, and I uploaded it here, but today I decided to use the videos too, but I didn't remember which video belonged to each part of the song:lol: So I just used the ones I thought belonged to the audio that you hear :)

I know what you mean, it's like cheating, but these videos where recorded at the same time with the audio!! I'm just not 100% sure that the one you see there, is actually the one that I used over the backing track, I'm about 95% sure though, there weren't many versions of each part.

2 for the rhythm, 3 for the solo, and 5 for the first guitar in the harmony and 2 for the second one :)

Umm... something with ezdrummer, like where to get it, how to install it and use it...

*looks away whistles quietly*

J/K, it's just that I'm limited to only making videos of Metallica because they're the only band that I have the backing tracks from Guitar Hero :(

I have a question for you guys.

I'm planning on buying a Jackson Rhoads RR24 (http://www.jacksonguitars.com/products/products.php?group=Rhoads-Body&page=1&product=2913024858)

Now before the "ALEKSI FANBOI ALERT" frenzy begins, let me explain myself.

I'm currently playing on a First Act ME502 model, which my stepfather bought at Circuit City for $100 including a shitty pocket-amp (I bought a marshall 45w) initially for my stepsister. She eventually leaved the house, leaving the guitar there, so I just picked it up and started playing. I didnt take good care of it at ALL, I changed the strings to a bigger gauge without adjusting it at all, then switched back to normal strings, hit it everywhere while not being used to having a guitar in my hands, you know. It keeps untuning at every ten minutes, and some kind of screw where the wire goes in is lost so I have to place the wire in a certain way or it buzzes and no sound can be heard.

So I figured it was time to switch axe since I'm practising a lot lately, and I can't bear this guitar. So I went to the store, tried a few models, my main idea was to get an Epiphone SG, but when I tried it, I ended up feeling very, very uncomfortable with it, even if I tried all the SG models out there. So I tried a few other shapes/brands, telecasters, explorers (hate those), and finally, I tried a V. I was avoiding them because it would be so easy buying it even without being comfortable with it just 'cause it looks cool and like a lot of guitarists I like. I finally decided to try it out, and I immediately fell in love with it. I love the feel of the axe, love how you place it when sat down, love the flow when you play on it, in a few words, I'm very comfortable with it.

SO, I looked up the internet for the nicest models, I ended up LOVING the Rhoads shape, and kindof disliking the ESP shapes. Plus I don't want an Alexi Signature guitar, and I really don't have the money to custom-shop it.

Now what I wanna know is : is it a good guitar? i'm not very into technical stuff about the guitar itself, so I'm here asking people who most likely know a shitload more stuff then me.
