How did you all get into Opeth?

I bought a Swedish magazine called "Close up" because they had a Type O Negative interview. A free cd accompanied the mag. and the last track was "Nectar" by Opeth. I liked it, but didn't get a hold of Morningrise although I had planned it. One of the reasons was maybe also that I stopped listening to metal shortly afterwards. I think I started listening to metal again in mid-2000 and when "Blackwater park" came out in 2001 I saw it at the website where I usually buy records and said "Hey, I think I'll order that". S-U-P-E-R-B record!!!! When the others were released on vinyl a while later I got my hands on them too and Opeth quickly became a member of the top of my favorite list!

I once saw a candlelight compilation in a shop. I bought it straight away, 'cause I knew that emperor and enslaved released stuff through that label as well. The second song on the compilation was the apostle in triumph (without the intro). That was definitely something I hadn't heard before!! From that moment I really started getting into there music more and more.

I had been listening to the metal radio show for a while, kept hearing Opeth and thinking they were amazing, but I hated the death growls (dunno why, they are quite smooth and tuneful compared to others...), and they lingered in my mind until I said "Fuckit" and downloaded The Leper Affinity, and thus Opeth (and death metal too) was born in my heart...

I introduced my friend to them, he told me about a song he had heard (Bloodbath - Breeding Death) and told me to download it, so I did, and I recognised the vocals being Mike, so I looked for some info on them, and realised they were a side project, and I told my friend he should check out Opeth and now they are his favorite band I think.. heh...

I downloaded "Demon Of the Fall", thought it was not-so-good, then about a month later started loving it and there we go hehe. (No I'm not finishing it with "and the rest is history... :p)

On a forum in like 98 , someone said something about this 20 minute song called blackrose immortal , so i dled it from napster...about 2 days after i got morningrise off ebay for 7 bucks.

At bolt.com 2 people always talked about Opeth and how they were the most wonderful band ever. I downloaded Bleak and Demon Of The Fall and hated it from the first minutes. Then I downloaded Harvest and was in love. I listened to Bleak and Demon some more and eventualy fell in love with Opeth, and metal as a whole, actually.

One of my friends had joined a band that had played that "Opeth" style and before that we had been mostly into mainstream rock (No Nu-metal!). At one point he introduced me to "Extreme" metal ... I hated it. I don't know, I just didn't understand it ... the grunting and all that stuff you go through before "Extreme" mtal "clicks",I guess. Then my friend told me to download Benighted and To Bid You Farwell, and then songs with little Death vox, but some like White Cluster and so forth ...
