Thrash has been the genre I have been focusing on recently, mainly buying stuff I see recommended, as it's a genre which requires a lot of catching up when you want to buy stuff and not download.

So, more or less this is what I have "amassed" so far:

Dark Angel - Darkness Descends
Death Angel - The Ultra-Violence
Kreator - Pleasure to Kill, Coma of Souls
Destruction - Mad Butcher, Eternal Devastation
Sodom - Agent Orange, Persecution Mania
Exhorder - Slaughter In The Vatican, The Law
Overkill - The Years of Decay
Anthrax - Fistful of Metal, Armed and Dangerous (more speed I suppose)
Torture Squad - Pandemonium (sort of)
Morbid Saint - Spectrum of Death (ok, not bought)
Sepultura - Beneath the Remains
Anacrusis - Suffering Hour

EDIT: remembered:
Exodus - Bonded By Blood (d'uh)
Heathen - Breaking the Silence, Victims of Deception

btw, Metallica and Slayer are a given (as are Megadeth)

SO - help me out by recommending some essential purchases to improve this list (please note "essential", I am on a strict budget)

:headbang:

I noticed you have no Testament CDs on your list, which is a grave oversight. If you are on a budget I reccomend First Strike Still Deadly, an album that compiles the best of their first two CDs. The songs are entirely re-recorded by the band giving them a much heavier sound than the original versions. Also reccomended is Low and their last studio album, The Gathering, which are absolutely killer!

Sodom "Agent Orange", "Persecution Mania"

I listed both of these

Sabbat "History of a Time to Come"

been wanting for ages, can't find a copy for sale anywhere :(

Exodus "Bonded by Blood"

got it (how could I forget!)

Heathen "Victims of Deception", "Breaking the Silence"

got both (I knew I'd forget some)

Vio-Lence "Eternal Nightmare", "Oppressing the Masses"

yep, I'm after these two

-------

Thanks

Testament "The Legacy"
Coroner - their catalog is pretty even so get pretty much any/everything
I definitely second these recommendations, though in the case of Coroner I´d say their albums "Mental Vortex" and "Grin" are less thrash metal than their first three releases. So I´d start with "R.I.P.", "Punishment For Decadence" or "No More Color".

I add the following recommendations:
Hexenhaus - "A Tribute To Insanity"
Détente - "Recognize No Authority"
Znowhite - "Act Of God"
Mekong Delta - "Mekong Delta", "The Music Of Erich Zann"
Voivod - "Killing Technology"

Artillery - Terror Squad
Exumer - Possessed By Fire
Sacrifice - Soldiers of Misfortune
Sacrifice - Forward to Termination
Paradox - Heresy
Demolition Hammer - Epidemic of Violence
Intruder - Psycho Savant
Sadus - Chemical Exposure
Lääz Rockit - Know Your Enemy
Flotsam & Jetsam - Doomsday for the Deciever
Rigor Mortis - Rigor Mortis
Destruction - The Antichrist
Destruction - Live Without Sense...good live recording with the best of their early stuff
Onslaught - The Force

If possible please recommend stuff from bands I didn't already list, because I want to discover new bands, I'm already familiar with the bands I've listed to a greater extent so I can check them out more deeply in the future.

Testament - refer to Erik
Kreator - I'd stick with what you have

Sepultura - Arise / Morbid Visions
Sadus - Chemical Exposure / Swallowed in Black
Megadeth - RIP, Peace sells, So far so good
Drunkard - Hellish metal dominate (this album fucking rules)

I still haven't heard any Sabbat, which is annoying, I need to get some :\

Forbidden-Forbidden Evil,Twisted Into Form.

The vocalist might sound odd to some at first, regardless the music is fucking badass and some of the best thrash. The guitarists shred like mad too. They have Paul Bostaph ex Slayer on drums, he's badass so is his drum sound. Forbidden is kick your ass thrash with music credibility. I suggest 'Forbidden Evil' first then Twisted Into Form. 'Twisted into form' is more raw, aggressive and ass kicking. That is album defines thrash music in my eyes.

omfg.. i am seriously shocked nobody has reccomended this one yet...

Artillery - By Inheritance

also check out the following:

Testament - get the entire discography
Kreator - Coma Of Souls, Pleasure To Kill, preview the others before buying
Sodom - Agent Orange, Code Red, M-16
Villain - Only Time WIll Tell
Attacker - The Second Coming
Exhorder - Slaughter In The Vatican, The Law

whatever you do make sure you at least get that Artillery album... amazing band.

hallows eve - death and insanity
exumer - possessed by fire (only reason is because i love fallen saint song, so i like the whole album)
sodom - m-16, i know you wanna get new bands, but that album is god like, minejumper is gotta be there best.

Thats all i can think off, a lot of my friends who are really into thrash like Warrior Soul - LAST DECADE, DEAD CENTURY, its hard-rock/old metal style seems a lot of thrash listeners like them. i suggest dl a song or 2 from them and see if you like it.

Artillery - By Inheritance is the best.

Coroner - The First Four

Holy Terror - Terror And Submission

Bywar - The Invincible War

Morbid Saint - Spectrum Of Death

Exumer - Possessed By Fire

Protector - Golem

Poison - Into The Abyss

Torture Squad - Pandemonium

oh, and Onslaught - In Search Of Sanity. Fucking awesome Thrash with Grim Reaper's Steve Grimmett offering a very interesting vocal take.

XENTRIX!!! "For Whose Advantage" is excellent, and "Shattered Existence" is great too. Can't buy them anymore but I managed to find them on Soulseek eventually. Well worth the searching.

Right. Essentials, you say.

Overkill - Taking Over, Horrorscope, Killbox 13
Anthrax - Persistence of Time
Ulysses Siren - Above the Ashes (YER FUCKING RIGHT IT'S ESSENTIAL)
Coroner - No More Color
Testament - The Legacy
Sabbat - History of A Time To Come (The End should have it)
Death Angel - The Ultra-Violence
Exodus - Tempo of the Damned
Destruction - The Antichrist

Not quite essential, but excellent:
Whiplash - Power And Pain
Carnivore - Carnivore
Overkill - Feel the Fire
Coroner - RIP
Kreator - the ones Erik mentioned
Exodus - Fabulous Disaster
