why does it have to only be the classics? I'd like to add tons of bands, but the polling can only hold soo much. Hence the reason why I didn't do it.

No way. I don't like their music, and I don't even think they were good songwriters. And plenty of others probably have the same opinion. My vote goes: BLACK SABBATH
I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Manilla Road yet. I haven't heard them in ages, but despite being a power metal band, even those primarily into extreme metal seem to love them.

Good call. Not liking Bathory is pretty much punishable by burning at the stake.
Because if no one knows who the fuck the band is they can't be universally liked.

Bathory might be too extreme for those only into trad and power metal. Anyone into extreme metal at all has to like them, though.

If you were joking, you should've picked a band where it would have been more obvious that you were joking (SfU, The Haunted, etc.). AC DC are in face very well respected amongst those heavily into traditional metal. Besides, you can't see sarcasm online. My bad.

Choose 10 or 15 of the most commonly well-regarded bands and create a poll where we can select as many options as we want. Everyone can then check all the bands that they like to any extent. While the numbers of votes for any band equal the total number of voters they can be considered universally liked. Eventually no bands will retain this title.
