into eternity

I told Ozzman last night that I'd listen to it soon to point 'em out but really if it's not glaringly obvious you're fooling yourself. If you cannot see the core basis in IE's music (particularly BiO and before, mind you) you are not listening critically and objectively enough.

I don't see how it's core-y at all, other than the vocal changes which isn't at all. It doesn't have a breakdown-mid tempo thing that I would know of since I listened to metalcore for awhile...I could use ur if it's so glaringly obvious why don't you remember but it's really not. I don't even care if it is metalcore but I dont hear it at all

*sigh*

I will put it on now and list the metalcore moments/backbone of the songs, partially because it is a great album (BiO that is).

It definitely opens as prog metal. I have no problem calling it partially progressive (you'll recall that I called it progressive metalcore so yeah). Check out the first chug riff. If there were normal tough guy vocals there it would clearly be metalcore, even to someone like you who obviously doesn't listen to things well enough to understand stuff like genre classifications :p. 2nd song has a metalcore breakdown riff like right off, but again there are clean vocals, the time signatures change a lot and there's lots of guitar wankery; all staples of progressive metal, and I just mentioned the clear metalcore stylings of the rhythm and guitar segments so it should be pretty obvious. Anyway I don't care to argue it anymore really. I'll just assume you are totally lost if you don't get it by now. :)

I will also admit it is very much more metal than a lot of metalcore most people here have been shown or listened to so I can see where you'd become averse to admitting the -core stylings. But it's not straight prog, it's not prog/power, and it's NOT death metal or any kind of that at all.

They are fucking amazing.

The vocal harmonies on Dead or Dreaming are beautifulllllll.

I understand the reason one might classify them as metalcore, but to me they are not metalcore. Breakdowns come from death metal and are not inherently -core. They are just overused and abused in the *core scene. While dual vocals are a staple of the new American melodic metalcore wave, they don't define -core by any means. Take these out, and you may still be able to find something to point to, but it's gonna be a thin argument. With a band that diverse, it is to be expected for them to contain hints of many things.

Conclusion:
NOT METALCORE

(but their latest was a bit weak)

I suppose your post is agreeable, but I still find that they best fit into a progressive metalcore framework better than any other genre combination you could come up with...

If the drumming was weaker I may agree with you, but their guitar work is really well(except some riffs which i guess could be core-y, didnt see it on Splintered Visions but Embraced by Desolation yah..).

But anyways, their latest album sounds really techy from what I remember myspacing a few tracks. It's good for them to go for a new sound with Stu instead of what htey did with Scattering

wtf. How would their drummer being weaker make them more metalcore

Scattering sounds more melo-death-ish with progressive/power influences than metalcore, but that influence is also there.

Progressive Metalcore or not, either way I love what these guys churn out. Vocal melodies and guitar work make for some very interesting and catchy tunes. Plus Stu gives the best soundchecks...

"Check, check, whhhaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Yup, it's good."

Me and my buddies still joke about that. haha
