Definitely a little different from the norm for the guys, but I like it. Funny, it sounds like something Star One would do (in terms of story plot anyway).
now, that you mention it... "Frontiers" does sound kinda Star One-ish...
I think "Frontiers" kicks ass and would've been a worthy inclusion on "The Odyssey". It's different, but it's still very good. Russell's vocals are awesome and the chorus is very well crafted.
I would have expected to see this song maybe on "Twilight", but not the Odyssey. It doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the album to me. Of course, it could be because I just heard it for the first time and it hasn't really sunk in yet. It's a cool song either way!
It really reminds me of Rush for some reason, much more metal, but still reminiscent. I think it's the intro which sounds like Spirit of Radio and the bass line.
I think this song is brilliant. Many of the band's lyrics are intensely personal.
I think this song is about the path they have been taking their music to different levels and opening doors for so many people who are unfamiliar with this style of music. It's all about them and their personal musical journey. That's what I hear, and I'm disappointed that it was not released on every "Odyssey" CD.
I also have the song and I love it! First I thought it was ok but now after a lot of listens I think it's awesome! Very cool chorus and, cool bass-tapping part with a very cool guitar solo.
The strangest thing about this song is that it's unmistakeably SymphonyX, yet it's so different from anything else they've done. This is definitely the most commercial sounding song from them. I could see the chorus being used as background music to a buddy type action movie, maybe during a chase scene or something.
"Frontiers" rules it, one of my favourite Odyssey-songs that isn´t one.
It does sound different compared to the rest of the album. In fact, it reminds me a lot of a TDWOT song, with its more balanced production, the flashy keys and bass etc. The chorus is really catchy, but I wouldn´t go as far as to call it "commercial sounding".
Perhaps not commercial, but it is probably the closest to being "radio friendly." It might appeal to the masses more than any of their other songs. That could be the reason why it doesn't fit with the other Odyssey songs.
Never thought about it... I think also that really looks like some lost track from Damnation Game... it sounds very similar to other tracks from this record.
just the space theme really i think is why it didnt fit with the odyssey.. the rest of the odyssey is about mythology and legend etc so i can see why it wouldnt go together.. would it be something theyre planning on for the next album though? futuristic theme, or was it just a play around? i dunno. we'll see i guess.
There is no link to the song guys, but we're not allowed to use the "dl" word on the forum....
Anyway, I just played the song for my mom and she loved it. She loves all their songs, but she was really jammin to this song lol. She loved the Romeo solo, and at the end of the song she said "Russell rules the universe!" And you know, even though the song is about space travel, the music doesn't sound spacey. That's good I think.
