I've been waiting for the film since Heath Ledger (r.i.p.) was announced and I saw it in Imax (if you havent yet I recommend you do it asap) on the 16th which was sold out and the hype before the queue was intense! I was so damn jittery in line and when the film opened up with the Bank robbery scene I almost shat my pants due to the high quality of the Imax scene. It was incredibly immersing. Heath Ledger was amazing (Jack who?) and the rest of the cast also brought their A game. Two-face was finally done right and Batman was awesome. When a film is this hyped up, its really easy to be let down by it due to high expectations and I gotta say, this film met and SURPASSED all expectations. The film was treated with applause and cheering when it started and ended (and rightly so). Damn great job by Nolan and the rest of the cast, especially Heath Ledger.

Haha, great scene. One of my favs was the bodybag scene where he told Gambol that story before he cut him. Lets put a smile on that face. So damn creepy.
How was the audience guys? I've seen the movie twice, once in imax and once in regular cinema and the imax crowd blew the regular crowd away. There was applause and cheering when it started and some guy said "thankyou lord" when it opened with the huge ass shot of the building, which was hilarious. There were similar reactions from both groups during certain scenes like the one where Bats dropped Moroni and he broke his leg (the audience was like "ooooh") and the scene where the Joker first see's the crispy Harvey in hospital and he's like "....Hi" with a disgusted look on his face had the audience laughing. But there was some fucking biatch that kept laughing excessively at the Joker and started quoting what he was saying right after he said it in the regular cinema. Also, some dumbass brought a baby in and it started crying a few times during the film. So yea, imax > regular.

holy shit, that was so much fucking pwn. everyone around me was laughing and was like "HOLY SHIT!"
My crowd was pretty meh, and me and my friends were the only ones who applauded at the end. Although the Joker's magic trick was received with several seconds of "oooh....ssssss..."s and some laughter and one person almost throwing up.

Hahahah, throwing up? It wasnt that bad. Tbh I read so many spoilers that I new almost everything before watching the film so I knew about the pencil trick thing and everyone was like it's pretty disturbing and stuff so I was bracing myself before it happened. But it happened so quickly and wasnt what I was expecting. Its still pretty cool though, and the reaction was similar "oooooh shit!!" at imax, and "hahahah" at normal theater.

It was a very good movie, probably around an 8/10, but it wasn't incredible. Ledger while being very good and easily his best performance it wasn't "brando" as so many critics built it up to be based upon 90 seconds of footage in the trailer. I guess its much easier to sell a paper in spinning a story that he "obsessed" over his character and became him rather than tell the truth which appears to be he became involved in hollywoods drugs had trouble coping with stress with overworking/relationship break up and took one too many substances. It will be interesting if Nolan takes on a 3rd. I thought Aaron Eckhart was a great casting choice as Two face/Harvey Dent. Bale was good as always, but his best performances are much better than his as Batman. I'll probably end up seeing it again, as I have a few mates who haven't seen it yet and want me to come.

b) occasionally the music score got annoying. the "buildup" drone was overused
c) i thought two-face would merely be established in this one and then climax in #3, so was disappointed to see his too soon demise.
d) the joker surviving will create problems for #3's plot continuity unless they use a katie homes' style replacement which would similarly suck.

Ledger is one of the best on-screen villians I have seen, right up there with the likes of Hannibal Lecter. And the movie went much deeper than "batman vs. joker," it actually had meaning! This is rarely done these days in hollywood. Terrorism, limits of power, guardians, inner-conflict, etc... One of my favorites this year (and one of my favorite films period).

a) I pretty much can't stand maggie gylenhaal, but she's about 300x better of an actress than Katie Holmes. At least she's believable in the role, unlike katie holmes, who came across like a 14 year old playing lawyer.
b) Yeah I agree actually, I remember being annoyed by that in the theater but had forgotten about it.
c) his character isn't actually established as dead, it's just strongly hinted at. I kind of hope he is, cause like, what can one crazy guy with a gun who kills based on a coin flip possibly do? He's not like some kind of twisted genius, he's just an angry nutter. He was great for what he did in this movie but there's no way the character could have carried another.
d) the joker is essentially neutered at the end. They could easily throw him in lockup and disregard him from this point, which wouldn't require actually even showing the character again. Of course, even though that would be a perfectly logical explanation for what happened to the character, it will still look like covering up for the fact the actor died. Oh well. I don't know what the hell they're going to do for the villain in the last, batman begins had pretty damn weak villains and this one managed to use the only two major batman villains that I could see as fitting in with the atmosphere of the reboots without sucking. I mean like, there's essentially no way you can use Catwoman, the Penguin, the Riddler, or Mr Freeze in a super-dark movie, they're just ridiculous characters...the joker was legitimately creepy but I don't see any of them working out that way.
Another problem I had with the movie was that part where Harvey Dent punched the guy out in court. That was dumb. So was the weird ongoing plot thing about how dogs are apparently batman's kryptonite. Also, the part with the fake batmen. Other than that, the movie was pretty much awesome. It seemed kind of overlong, since it seemed like the climax of the movie was where Batman has to choose between the girl and harvey dent and they could have ended it right after that, but the actual ending was good too and the stuff after that part was still good, just seemed a bit like another episode or something after the actual climax.

Haha, brilliant. "This new movie has a joker that's about 10 billion times better than Jack Nicholson's, I refuse to watch it cause I might like it more!!!" Seriously, the new joker is so much better than that one it's not even funny. Jack Nicholson gave a great performance but the character of the joker in that one is so inferior it's not even funny, he's essentially an annoying clown as opposed this where he's a truly creepy and deranged psycho with a twisted sense of humor.

Jack Nicholson is one of my favorite actors hands down and I love the 89 Batman, but I have to say Ledgers performance came across better and I've seen the 89 Batman a fair few times whereas I've seen TDK once. Gylenhaal>>Holmes as an actress, but Holmes played the character slightly better. Ghyenhaal looked pretty awful next to the whole of the major cast. After seeing it once I would give it a strong 8 of 10, there were a few sequences like the court scene where dent punched the armed guy (wtf) and a few others but overall a pretty good film. I am looking forward to seeing it again, Batman Begins grew on me a lot, so maybe this will as well. As for Nolan though as much as I would like him to direct the 3rd his other films are so much better and I'd like to see him move elsewhere. Memento and The Prestige for example are brilliant films. But given the genre and context, the franchise couldn't have been resurrected better after the shit heap Batman and Robin was.
nolan is going to do a 3rd, two-face isn't dead, and the movie decimated. my only complaints are:
#1, batmans voice, so unnatural and so deep it became annoying

I'm assuming they had him speak like that in the new films, so as to hide his identity moreso. But yeah it is a bit much and the score wasn't anything special iyam. Nolan and Bale I'm sure will return, but the question is, the Joker isn't dead, who should replace him. Because it seems they wanted to utilize the character in the 3rd. I saw someone suggest Daniel Day Lewis on imdb, that's not a bad choice iyam. Oh and at this point I would say tdk is the best film I've seen in cinemas this year.
