Last movie you've watched

I liked it because i'm a sci-fi freak but it did get some pretty bad reviews, you have to admit. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_fountain/

I checked out the reviews on that site you linked me to... and yes it got some bad reviews but mostly from critics(most of them look like geeks with no lives not that it matters but perhaps their personalities could affect their reviews of films) that have unsophisticated minds and do not understand the movie & the message it was conveying... most likely they are the kind of critic that would give First Blood (rambo) movies 4 out of 5 stars... Take them to a Monet exhibit and I'm sure they will give similar reviews because they do not understand Art. Also I wouldn't be surprised if some of these "critics" make a living by trashing films whether they are good or not. But overall the reviews were divided 50/50 pretty much.I also checked out the forums for The Fountain on that site and one person who posted in the "Are you sure you understand this movie?" summed up the film pretty good imo:

"Before I watched this movie, I had never seen or heard a word about it, only a general buzz that it wasn't very good. I personally loved it. Reading reviews and summaries of the movie, I think most people are off in there interpretation. Here's what I think:
--The role of the "conquistador" is a fictional character made up by Izzy in the movie as a representation of Tommy. There is no direct link or "reincarnation" at all. Tommy with the tree moving towards Shibalba as a "monk" represents a person after death on the verge of knowledge of life/death/peace. These scenes are a type of mythic representation that help the story evolve.
--The story is therefore rooted in the present, that is Tommy as a doctor and Izzy as a cancer patient, with these two side stories presenting a fitting metaphor for the characters evolving relationship. The story of the conquistador is a gift from Izzy to Tommy which is aimed at helping him understand her view of life/death/peace. Leaving the last chapter unfinished and asking him to finish it is a way for her to bring him to this understanding, even after she has passed. The monk scenes are those which represent Tommy's inner world and struggle with his wife's and his own, inevitable death.
--The two major themes I see are: one, humans timeless struggle with death, and two, that love conquers death.
--I haven't read anything which supports this interpretation by anyone involved in the movie, but I think that the PR campaign represented it as something which it isn't and did it a great disservice. What may throw people off is that the first scene is one which is not real, and only a metaphor. If you take it as a tale of literal time travel or reincarnation, it is rightfully confusing and perhaps not very good. My prediction however is that this movie was promoted incorrectly and will resurface as a cult classic in years to come."

has anyone watched 28 Weeks Later yet? I'm going to watch it on Wednesday probably.
and today I just watched 40 year old virgin, that one is hilarious

I loved 40 year old virgin  I saw Knocked Up which is by the same director etc.. Funny too but not as funny as 40 year old virgin... a couple of the same actors as well.. The guy who brought the porno video tapes to 40 year dude and one of the store salesmen are in Knocked Up...

It is a horribly convoluted film. Your claims that people who don't like it just didn't get it are beginning to wear thin, and Ad homs flung at critics hardly support your case. Of course you are entitled to enjoy the film, but thus far you have only told everyone else why they shouldn't not like it.

Perhaps I am overly cynical when it comes to cinema these days, but the Fountain was horrible. The fact that it may be borderline esoteric or difficult to decipher hardly makes it a good movie. It is essentially like Donnie Darko - it toys with some not quite understandable qualities, but eventually falls flat on its face.

To each his own... but I still think you didn't get the movie and that is why you didn't enjoy it... perhaps it is just the genre since you mentioned Donnie Darko as well... or the director etc...

Saw a few movies recently...

Timeline - Time travel movie, not too bad, some good Medeival battle scenes

Full Metal Jacket - Finally saw this movie, very good war film set in Vietnam

Downfall - Movie about the downfall of Hitler. Very good, one of the best movies I have seen

Red Dragon - finally watched this Hannibal film, overall not too bad

Hannibal Rising - Very good film about Hannibal Lecter's traumatic childhood. The movie suffers from being a generic revenge flick, and the gore is too over-the-top

Texas Chainsaw The Beginning - One of the better Texas chainsaw films imo

Children of Men - I liked the plot but I was a bit dissapointed, and the ending is horrible

Last Days - film about a musician similar to the guy from Nirvana (forgot his name). The movie is plodding and boring for the most part

Watched Cache, a French film about a family who is under surveillance for reasons they do not know. It was very boring and went nowhere, the ending provided no answers. Not a very good film...

The Butterfly Effect 2 - Not overly horrible, not very good

28 Weeks Later - Very brutal movie, with lots of gore, and very suspenseful. This was the horror movie of my dreams
