ill certainly agree that the production and sound on the last 2 albums have been craptastic. IF needs to return to Fredman
What does he have to do with the way they are currently writing songs? I really dont get why the producer takes so much blame for albums not being good. Isnt it the band whos writing & playing the songs?

A) Alexi is a pretty damn good guitarist. Listen to the solos on Silent Night Bodom Night and especially Kissing the Shadows

B) The newer IF isnt as good as JR/Colony/Clayman, but its still better than 97% of all the mainstream shit out there...and they've gotten a lot of MTV2 airtime with STYE.

3)I like the STYE production...Thougt it had kinda a creepy, shadowy sound. However, my problem is with the writing. It's too centered on the vocals, especially considering Anders' skill as opposed to the the guitarists. And WHERES THE BASS?

did you not read my post? the production and sound quality on the last two have been craptastic. as in, the drums sound is horrible, the guitar sound is either muddy as hell (rtr) or a static mess (stye), etc etc.... SOUND QUALITY. thats the studio and producer's fault. compare colony or clayman to the newest two, not musically, but in sound quality and youll see what i mean.

zzzZZZzzzZZZ

he can shred up and down the same old same old tired and overused basic scalees, with no "feeling" or creativity present.... he sounds like he's got a couple basic scales in front of him, and just "connecting the dots" in different ways. speed alone does not impress me (unless you are john petrucci, who has gotten so damn fast it doesnt matter what he does), and that's all Alexi's got.

heres just a couple examples of good and creative guitarists, of the top of my head really quickly:

Mike Amott - metal needs more soloists like this guy, he puts more feeling into one of his solos than all of Alexi's combined. His talent really shows on Carcass's Heartwork/Necroticism, where he brought a whole new dimension to Carcass's sound with his brilliant lead playing.

Erik Rutan - Ditto.... he plays on some really brutal death metal (hate eternal, morbid angel) but his playing is so gut wrenchingly melodic amidst the brutal music, best example in Morbid Angel - God Of The Forsaken which has one of the most darkly melodic guitar solos ever out of nowhere on top of one of MA's all time most brutal songs. Erik is a man of contrast, laying the extremely melodic over the extremely brutal which achieves an amazing effect.

Peter Tagtgren - Variety is the key with this guy, he does everything from chaotic shredding (apocaliptic hybrid, dominion), really cool use of the wah-pedal (adjusting the sun), acoustic soloing (request denied), melodic shredding (reversed reflections, death row-no regrets), emotionally-charged solos (paled empty sphere), or just do something really orgasmic (elastic inverted visions).... all examples of just his soloing, and his rhythm playing is just as eclectic as well (and not to mention his vocals even, Tagtgren is THE MAN)

Tommy T. Baron - this guy was a good example of what Alexi would sound like if he was creative.... on the Coroner album "Mental Vortex" songs like Son Of Lillith, Semtex Revolution, and Pale Sister have shredding along the lines of Alexi, but the scales, notes/progressions, etc.... all the technical stuff blah blah blah is just thought out so well and creatively it shows.

Trey Azagthoth - hell, i don't even know where to start with this guy.... so ill just say this guy fucks his guitar up in so many different ways, weaving in and out of tonality at lightning speed, using unheard of scales, or even no scales at all yet it all sounds so..... "right"....

etc, etc, etc........

do i think Alexi is a poor guitarist? no. do i hate CoB? not really, i'm not really a huge fan either, they were great for a while now they just bore me.... and its just the lack of anything interesting that keeps it that way. His playing is fast but just so..... boring, and unintersting....

but I still really like Alexi, I love the classical scale shit . I think for pure interest Malmstein and Alexi should have a duel. Just classical shit. Even though I love both we could call it Snooze fest. Cause I gotta admit after awhile even I would get bored.

Personally, Mike Romeo from Symphony X is my favorite guitarist.

I don't know much about guitars but all I know is I like his style and thats what is important in my book. Just go listen to The Turning at the beginning of the song he shreds it the fuck up. Thats the kind of playing I like to hear. Thats why
guitarists like Romeo, Laiho, Amott brothers, Petrucci, Stephan from Adagio, and Jeff Loomis are my among my top favorites.

OK now I know where you're coming from. I agree that the sound quality on STYE isnt the best. It seems so much less melodic. Arent In Flames supposed to be melodic death?

lol...Petrucci's solos are boring and very lethargic IMHO, but HOW DOES HE DO IT? He makes Hendrix sound like he's just learning how to go up a scale (no disrespect to Hendrix fans intended)

the producer is the one taking the blame becuz he's the one deciding how the album should sound(DUH!) that's his job. the sounds on STYE maybe creepy and dark, but that doesnt come from the guitars or all that shit they actually play. its like nu-metal and they may be misjudged as a nu-metal band. that's gay.

It's a sad day when you're actually worrying about people mislabelling a band.

im just going to respond to alot of stuff

morbid angel is numetal slowed down, repetitive slow rhythms. OOh thats heavy and dark man! Give me a break. Although the guys do kick ass in solos and whatnot. Double bass at 80 beats a minute...

A) Alexi is a pretty damn good guitarist. Listen to the solos on Silent Night Bodom Night and especially Kissing the Shadows

um silent night bodom night is easy as hell compared to any other cob solo cept for bed of razors.

hmm let me see here ? whos the guitarist to a famous metal band and who is the 9nth grader talking shit on him yea thats what i thought , alexi is eeons better then kirk and YOU for that matter ok NAUSHAD! think of one VALID REASON to say that alexi isnt an amzing guitarist who would wipe his ass with your mudvayne listening face! i am the ultimate corpse espooo ! fuck you ! ahah

um listen to something OTHER than cob. I mean alexi is pretty good and all but romeo, yngwie (if he ever practices anymore), petrucci, vai, friedman, becker, gilbert, satriani, or michael angelo could easy outplay the shit out of him. Even roope could do it easily, i dont know why noone likes roope.

My dick can play better guitar than Alexi Laiho. What an overrated crock of shit. He couldn't compose guitar lines if he had a fucking shotgun aimed at his nuts.

your dick probably could. I dont think he's that great but the guy can fucking write better than most metal bands out there because he actually knows howto create fucking melodies. Someone who cant compose if he had a shotgun aimed at his nuts would be rusty cooly or franceso fareri.

but I still really like Alexi, I love the classical scale shit

um what classical scale shit. Other than maybe some shit on something wild its all major scale.

the producer is the one taking the blame becuz he's the one deciding how the album should sound(DUH!) that's his job. the sounds on STYE maybe creepy and dark, but that doesnt come from the guitars or all that shit they actually play. its like nu-metal and they may be misjudged as a nu-metal band. that's gay.

what more need i say about the numetal question. b5 b5 b5 b5 b5 e5 e5 e5 e5... lol.

lol...Petrucci's solos are boring and very lethargic IMHO, but HOW DOES HE DO IT? He makes Hendrix sound like he's just learning how to go up a scale (no disrespect to Hendrix fans intended)

What are you talking about man, hendrix didnt know any scales.
