I didn't go to their initial US shows, but the last time and only time I saw them, which was only during "Days of Grays" they had a pretty good crowd at HOB, so if they have a decreased crowd, it's only barely.

I'd love to see Primal Fear again. One of the better live power metal acts.
I haven't seen Edguy in quite some time, but I would definitely go again. Always a good show even if their recent material isn't that great.

Edguy always put on a great show. One of the best power metal shows I have seen was when they played Logan Square after the Pearl Room closed down. They came out to a very very small crowd...at most 100....that is stretching it. They made the best of it and put on a super enegetic show and just had fun. They made comments and jokes about the building and turnout the whole time in a funny way. While the set list was the same as the past three times they have come through...it was still a great show. I will definetly see them again.
Yep, when they played that first headline show with ION VEIN opening, it was considered a sell out.
That's what I recall at least.
When I saw them a few years later at HOB, opening for DragonForce, it wasn't even half as full.
And that was with DragonForce, so that says something.

it was far from a sell out...tons of room. I even remember that on the outskirts of the floor there was lots of open space and the back area was completely empty. Now the COB / DUmmy Burger show was a sellout show...you couldn't even move there.

They just need to leave the "cock" out of their "rock" and get back to trying to be the next Helloween as that's where I feel they created their best material.
I know many defend Rocket Ride, but I can't hold that as being of the same caliber as Theater of Salvation.
Admittingly, I haven't heard anything post Hellfire Club. I heard their last one was a little bit more of a return to form, but who knows.
Now, if they did a tour with Sonata and PRimal Fear, that would be perfect.
Three bands I would have no interest in seeing on their own but all together would make me jump the fence. The reality is they all draw from the same core crowd which is very small, and wouldn't collectively attract enough fence sitters to cover the cost.
So, in other words, the undercard will be buy ons.

Rocket Ride for me is the worst album. Tinnitus Sanctus was much better, but still not great.
Age Of The Joker was a great album, IMO.. not a complete return to Hellfire Club or Theater, but those were classics.. AOTJ has a lot more power and has some definitely 70s influences on some of the songs. Oddly, one of the best songs on the album (God Fallen Silent) is only available on the bonus disc.

Not everyone goes for a support band and while there was a time Dragonforce was doing quite well, I believe that show was during their decline. I also seem to recall there being another show that competed with it.

Agreed completely, but I don't think they'll ever do a full return to form as it seems Tobi likes Avantasia being his power metal and Edguy to be his wannabe Scorpions band.
I defend Rocket Ride. I think it's a great album, but I also agree that it's nothing like Theater of Salvation.
I honestly haven't listened to the last one. I might at some point, but I was very put off after Tinnitus which was a big pile of shit.
I like "Rocket Ride", it was a really fun rock album, and "Tinnitus Sanctus" was pretty solid too, but "Age of the Joker" didn't grab me at all. It's like they've become a joke band, and while anybody who knows me knows I love comedy, I really don't think it mixes well with metal. I'm not actually so sure I'd be excited about seeing Edguy again. I've seen them twice, and the direction they're going makes it unlikely they're going to play a set that's heavy on the old power metal material I'd want to see.

Humor definitely has its place in metal, but it doesn't make sense for Edguy considering the high quality power metal they had in the beginning.
It was a weeknight show I do recall, so I doubt there was any direct competition that I can recall. But yes, this was when DF was touring for Sonic Beatdown or whatever that album was called.
Either way though, I thought the collection of both together would have done better.
I heard their last show (Sonata) at MoJoes was pretty empty.

Yeah.. Tinnitus was, considered as a whole, a pile... but I quickly removed Dragonfly, Sex Fire Religion, Nine Lives, and Aren't You A Little Pervert Too? from the rotation and it because a nice little rock EP with some power elements.
AOTJ has much fewer issues - Two Out Of Seven is garbage, and Robin Hood has a great sound with cheesy lyrics, but the album tends to lean back more to the power that made them great - God Fallen Silent, The Arcane Guild, Breathe, and Behind The Gates To Midnight World... and most of the rest of just good rock with a wide range of influences.
(Full disclosure: I'm a huge fan of Sammet's work, and probably just a bit of an apologist for the errors in judgment he's made)

There was one song on there I REALLY REALLY liked but the rest was so forgettable.

Well that's a whole other story.
Honestly as we both know, there hasn't been much attendance for Mojoes shows up until recently. If it was practically empty that's a huge jump from the HOB show I went to and that.

When Sonata played the Masquerade in Atlanta on the Reckoning Night tour, they had no touring package, just local openers. The only reason there was a turnout was for some high school metalcore band (Dark Asylum) that apparently had a following at the time. There were about three rows of us there for Sonata and the rest were scene kids.
One inside joke / story that we all tell was overhearing a kid in line for tickets say to a friend "So who's headlining this bullshit anyway?"

When Sabaton did their short tour this past spring, they played Dallas on a Tuesday night.. there were maybe 150 people there (a very enthusiastic 150) and two opening local acts that weren't really even metal, and tickets were only $13.
Joakim took it in stride and they put on a great show with a full set. When I talked to him at ProgPower, I mentioned the Dallas show, and he replied that he remembered it for being a very small crowd because of the weeknight show, how unseasonably warm it was that night for February, and what a great show it was despite the turnout. It's great that he remembers those little things.. makes the dedicated fans feel good.
