ok, i think its obvious that there a whole lot of nerds in metal. what do you think of the culture. guys who are computer techs and play world of warcraft along wit listening to the new suffocation. or listening to nile, and actually understanding what theyre talkin about.

I am definately a nerd. I read non-fiction for fun, I play MMoRPGs (or even worse, text-based MUDs), I remember the cheats for Doom 1, I love Star Trek, I use Linux as OS and I am severely handicapped socially. I'd probably just sit in a dark room infront of a computer screen 24/7, never socializing with anyone if I weren't so afraid of being eaten by a grue.

However, I get the feeling that I am a minority among metalheads.

i do. i work in a half lit room on a fuckin unix system, then i come home and get on my computer or play xbox live in my half lit dorm room.

I spend alot of time on the computer but thats during the day, including talking to my girlfriend online, going on this, watching music videos, and checking out sport scores. I sit in a fully lit room with windows everywhere, just wearing shorts. I have loads of mates who I go out to the pub with almost every night. I was in all my old schools sports teams. Yet I am a metalhead.

Let's see I like the X-Files, Star Trek, and the Dune series but I also like the Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins equally as much. I guess I am a man of extremes in my tastes in metal and otherwise.

i have found many metalheads are nerds, but much more intellectual than most other fans of other genres. you wont find a rap forum like this one

hell, im a nerd, i guess. i read quite a lot, i live my life sitting in front of this damn computer, i play video games, etc. but we are also nerds of our genre more than any other fans. when i start a rant about metal, whether it is of a certain band, sub genre, musician, etc., i get those looks. like "what a loser"

but then again, i do like to party

Just because people spend lots of time on a computer, and plays video games doesnt make them a nerd, not even close. A computer can pretty much do whatever you want except wipe your arse for you, whereas TV sucks. And every person from every music genre plays video games.

I think todays version of a nerd is much more hardcore. ie, you write multi-dimensional arrays for sexual pleasure, and use if statements to try and pickup.

Oh - and you use a briefcase.

Well, I do have the same attitude towards metal and computer games - I love anything from the late 80s/early 90s but I think most stuff now sucks ass. I wouldn't call that nerdy though - sitting playing multiplayer RPG crap against your friends for days on end is nerdy. Plus those games are total waste of time.
