metal nerds

I'm very far from being a nerd, but I do consider myself slightly intellectual, and metal is the reason for that. Though I do enjoy a good fiction book and chatting about old battle tactics.

I notice more intellectual people listening (or associating themselves with) metal. This is only a discovery I've recently made while thinking about the different types of people who listen to different genres of music so I need to give more thought into this idea. But it seems that a lot of extreme metal (black mostly) have more sophisticated ideologies behind the bands and some people take the time to explore those and can relate to them better.

I noticed it today too when I saw a group of doped up looking white kids wearing all baggy clothes. I knew they were rap fans. It is very obvious. I began thinking about rap and pop music (most rap IS pop music now) and while listening to a few songs that were playing in the clothing store I was in with my wife I noticed that the lyrics are ALWAYS about the same topics (at least with the songs I heard and the older songs I know, I have nothing to do with pop music now). These topics are so basic and do not need any more thought put into it then the words given to the listener. I think the more intellectual people search for music that develops more questions and want for thought and exploration.

Let me give it more thought.

And every person from every music genre plays video games.

I don't play video games - ever. But I'm old.

So I'm super busy with career and family. I sit in front of the computer checking out music forums and such, but don't know a lot about computers. I am obsessed with all kinds of music, especially metal, and try to find time to alphabetize and maintain my ridiculously large CD collection, trade CDRs, write reviews, and all that stuff.

I was a real smart kid, and remain a pretty smart adult. I don't fit into mainstream (or any other) society, but I don't think that's exactly what we're after here.

Anyway, I bow to all of your various nerdages.

i hunt and fish and drink and party and play nintendo/sega and work and eat and shit and sleep and fight and fuck, all the while listening to metal. i listen to it always, no matter what, when, why. even at funerals. ESPECIALLY at funerals. metal is my soundtrack. and yeah, i smoke a lil' pcp here and there. but just for fun! :)

I'd probably be typing this from a command line browser, but I don't think Ubuntu comes with one (if it does, I don't know the name) and my father hasn't left synaptic running so I can't install one specially for the occasion. If I were using my Fedora notebook things would be different...

I'd say I'm a bit geeky, in that I know a decent bit about computers. I can do 7.~|_|3, |>|_|.~3 1337 5|>34|<. I can find my way around CLIs, and can edit and save stuff using VIM.

Don't annoy me or I'll go root and delusr you! :p

you must be 14

when you're older you will realize that knowing unix command line isn't cool and that using vim and telling yourself it's cool because it's somewhat more difficult to type :w than ctrl-s is a waste of time and also that wearing a "go away or i will replace you with a very small shell script" shirt from thinkgeek is not hilarious and does not help you in life

 I know "that knowing unix command line isn't cool", I don't use VIM and tell myself it's cool, and I don't wear or own any shirts from thinkgeek.

I was just attempting to provide support for why I might label myself with 'geeky'. I probably failed miserably, but I have excuses at the ready *shug*. (And I can point to my sig).

EDIT: and I usually only pull out 1337 when someone else has used l33t, or other appropriate times.

Has your guess of my age fallen even further?
