nice to know im not alone. dont get me wrong, they dont suck...theyre obviously talented...and not doing anything completely unoriginal. however, i just dont think theyre very good at all...or worth spending time listening to. i guess if you just NEED that metal sound all the time, then theyre an ok alternative band to the normal repertoire. i on the other hand can name about 50 bands off hand at any time id rather listen to than orphaned land.

I agree. I've found Orphaned Land and Evergrey to be two very bland bands that get a lot of undeserved praise.
Disillusion beats the crap out of Orpaned Land.

But what about Evergrey's sweet trench coats and matching goatees?

its like they had a band meeting about it. "Guys, we're pretty good, but you know what we really need? Goatees."

i'm sorry, that was the wrong answer. do not pass go. do not collect $200. the correct answer was: "mabool owns my soul"

lol. no. really...that album is NOT that good. i can think of 30 right off the top of my head that are 200% better in every possible aspect.

It made me sad when I heard the title of the article. It's like all these idiot magazines are too lazy to do research and realize Opeth has been around for what, 10 years ++? They are too busy trying to make things sounds "shiny, new, exciting" and make it look like something everybody will love when it actually hasn't changed at all. OPeth is opeth, I don't consider them to be the "insane new sound of underground metal" because, well... they've always been insane, they're not new, and they are slowly (but surely) working their way out of the underground. I wish I could piss in that guy's throat. (the guy who typed the magazine title) and I guess also the guys who published the zine. I'd piss in all their eyes. :zipit:

Please, name a couple. I am genuinely curious.

i shouldnt have to name any albums better than "mabool". what the hell is mabool in the scheme of things anyway? some mediocre and overrated third world country death metal album? YOU should be able to name 30 albums better than it as well. cmon, think about it.

dude it's your right to consider it a mediocre album, but the fact that it's from a third world country shouldn't have anything to do with it

(i'm not even sure israel is a 3rd world country, i don't know much about it other than its confict with the palestinians)

technically thats true...but i dont think ive heard a 3rd world country metal album i really enjoyed. so its a remark on the quality...nothing racist or geographical.

Not ethnic metal bands, no.

So will you name a couple, or no? 2 out of 30 is not a hard request.

Here's the deal:

Disillusion = total pwnage
Orphaned Land = annoying

I really tried Mabool repeatedly but it failed and got worse with every listen.

you can't mix your insults like that dude. You can use the "wrong game show answer" OR the "bad Community Chest card from Monopoly", but not both.

What do those albums have to do with ethnic metal?
