To Mikael, From a longtime fan...

now you see... this is like therapy... you just need one "hi my name is...i´m an alcoholic" to stand out and the rest will follow... now continue...i´m sure mikael and the rest of the band will be happy to witness this thread :)

Thank you very much! A breath of fresh air for me to have someone actually appreciate what we do! These days people spend more time a hatin'!
Yes, I wrote a song on the subway yesterday eveing, in my head. It's great!

Cheers guys!
Mike
i missed this post. whoa. sweet, mikael caught us praising the band!

It's definately nice to see everyone having to post something besides "shit thread." around here. Opeth have definately changed my life, I would go as far to say that they even saved it. Keep making great music guys!

Mike, I'm with the original poster. Ghost Reveries is a kick ass album and my favorite along with Still Life. Don't listen to all the jackoffs. Just keep doing what you're doing, making incredible music.

Well the more fans you get, the more haters you get as far as I see it. This just means your band is getting out there to more people which is always a good thing!

Cheers Mike and co for all the good tunes, keep up the good work and come back to New Zealand soon !! :kickass:

I like threads like this much better than the ones that turn into arguments about who has the biggest e-penis.

As long as Opeth makes good music, I don't care whether they spend half of their stage time getting the entire crowd to say stuff like "Hello, bitch!" and whatnot. I pay for my ticket to see Opeth, not to yell at them for spending too much time yapping and not playing Demon of the Fall or whatever. Too many people are making up excuses to make fun of bands these days.

Along the lines of what Jon Snow said, I think Opeth has been getting better with each release. Whatever you're doing Mike, it's fucking working. God speed.

Like some here mentioned, there's something about your music that keeps bringing me back, even after I've overplayed your albums to ridiculous extents! Mikael and the guys have a tremendous gift and I hope they keep using it for years to come.

Opeth discography on my MP3 player. I'm into about the third month of listening to nothing but that. Occassionally some Porcupine Tree, but pretty much just Opeth. I remember, being a classical muso, it was the actual presence of musicianship and talent that attracted me to the band. I'd hated metal until I saw the tremendous abilty in the songwriting here.

I kinda wish Opeth hadn't gotten famous, because then it could just be those who appreciate them that would talk about them. That's just me being selfish.

I do expose myself to more bands. I download so much shit it's not funny. None of it clicks like this though. There's always something about other bands, e.g the vocals aren't right, the riffs are boring etc. I get into a lot of prog rock, but I'm too lazy to get to know them better.

I'm with mostly everyone here. I love Opeth and they changed my life too. I have never been such a huge fan of any band before. Everything is just fantastic about Opeth. Keep up the fucking great work!

Dude. You need to actually start buying albums...downloading is for suckers.
...kids these days....yeesh!

And I have to agree that it's about time a thread has lasted this long without disintegrating into "stfu n00b"..."OH! you just got pwned!"...I browse the forum quite often just to keep abreast of events and such and as someone who has been here since the forum first started, it really has lost a lot of it's charm and it gets rather tiresome sifting through all the bs...

Anyway, I have gone through periods where I've listened only to Opeth as well (e.g. MAYH twice a day for 3 months straight ...) because sometimes the music is SO fucking good you just can't get enough. Hell, if I could bake it in a cake and eat it, I would, that's how good they are.

That's not to say that I don't listen to other music...but something about Opeth just....mmmmm....can't get enough.

well spoken guys. it do sound pretty geeky to say that they have changed my life, and that they are so fucking musically talanted and such, but it's true. There is absolutley no other band like Opeth. as someone else posted, nither do I have been a big fan of any band, but this is ridiculous...

I have seen them live a couple of times now, and I told my brother if the next performance is so fucking great the other was, I will tattoo the "O" somewhere...well, I got the tattoo, and I wont regret it until im dead, thats for sure. They mean so much for me.

I remember one time they played here in Gothenburg (sweden). I went to "CD-specialisten", a record store, where they sat and signed autographs. After a while, mike and mendez went out for a smoke and there I stod like 3meters from mike, and I was so fucking nervous I could not get a word out to express my gratitude for their music, and his voise...omg.

well, I felt like a little girl whom got to meet her idols for the first time ;D

Tack som fan Mikael! :]

I think fans should be critical if necessary. Especially if they're fans of good music first, and Opeth second. That said, I find nothing about Opeth's music, either past or present, that presents anything to be seriously critical about. Nitpicks? Sure. But not full blown criticism, imo.
