Mikael Stanne vs Anders Fridén

Frieden's vocals have always been sub-par to me, although I think they improved over the last 2-3 albums (never heard him live so I can't say). To me he always sounded like he needed to breathe, the lyrics were always garbled (and he never wrote lyrics in the early DT/IF days so that's counts against him too as a vocalist) and a lot of times he wouldn't finish works/syllables.

Stanne in my opinion is the best vocalist in death metal. Massive, guttural, sharp, and clear plus his clean vocals are amazing. When I find a better vocalist, I'll be the first to admit it.

I'm sure both Mikael and Anders are tired of being compared to each other.

It's a poll from 2002, when - if not acceptable - this episode was probably the darkest moment of an otherwise brilliant posting career, I'm sure.

I voted Stanne as well... Although I'm not one of the In Flames haters and I actually enjoy R2R (a lot even), Anders is nowhere near as powerful as Stanne... Stanne covers a really nice range and hes has never strayed from his direction except on Projector in my opinion. Dark Tranquillity gets better and better where In Flames seems to be running out of fuel and is getting boring in turn.

Have you heard Christian Älvestam from Scar Symmetry. I find he is probably one of the only vocalists that can defeat Stanne on vocals in terms of the number of styles that he can do amazingly well. The CD Pitch Black Progress is a great example of his talents.

Ya, for me its both...DT, I think started the sounds of many of the bands that we treasure.. 1993's album Skydancer i see in At the Gates early work, In Flames and Opeth... not bad if you ask me :] I think that either singer could have done it. I think Mikael is a great person just from my live experiences and he's a great pickup for the band

Those downtuned vocals on The Lesser Faith (about at 03:42 and 03:47) are but pure bliss, I wish there were more of those in Fiction.

Stanne rules in all aspects, growls, screams, clean vocals. Fridens voice is ok on Whoracle, poor on earlier releases, and annoying on later releases. I do not think Anders can be considered a singer.

No contest, hands down, Stanne FTW! Anders used to be decent, now he sounds like he's from Korn or something.
