It truly is. I've listened to them all now back to back and I'm astounded at how good the new one is. The band have pushed the envelope too, no stagnant bullshit here.

I'd actually forgotten just how good it was since I hadn't listened to it since the beginning of the year.

"Haaska" is probably the song of the year, along with "Coffin Ships".

Voimasta has not stood the test of time at all. It sounds like a Thyrfing variation. That doesn't necessarily imply that it's a bad album per se, but it sounds so immature now compared to Verisakeet. They've travelled into epic circles now and have progressed into a better version of Falkenbach.

Heathen Crusade could not come soon enough. :kickass:

To me, Verisakeet is Moonsorrow full of themselves. I can't get into it. Maybe with time. I'm coming around on Kivenkantaja so you never know.

As it stands, Voimasta is still my fave.

Speaking of Falkenbach, lets hope this new (old) one is better than the last one. Falkenbach's debut still stands supreme over Viking Metal.

That album is top 3 for me 2005. The first song does it for me, so many great moments. The song until 7 minutes is exceptional, but then 7:15 it gets better! You have a kick ass riff followed by some vocals then a nice lead break. At 8:30 all hell breaks loose again with screaming and heaviness. 9:30 more great vocals...then some more goodness. 12 minutes aRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. Then it closes with as much intensity as minute one. A better song you will not find for pillaging and pludnering.

J you're off your rocker thinking voimasta comes close to this. :zombie: :heh:

I actually agree with J. that Voimasta is still my favorite, it's just so consistently good throughout in that "immediate catchiness" sort of way - but Verisakeet is fantastic and is closing the gap with each passing day, perhaps with enough listens the distance between those two albums will be negligible.

Speaking of which, we definitely need to coordinate our plans. Let's figure it out when you have the time.

I'm actually more fond of the "Valdr Galga" kind of immediate catchiness. The first two tracks have "drakkars in the blazing sunset" and "epic warmonging" written all over them

Listen up:

"Verisakeet" is the "...And so the Night Became" or "Hvis Lyset Tar Oss" or "Songs of Moors..." of viking metal.

Yeah, Dark One, as soon as I've got some idea of where I'll be in that timeframe, we'll plan a trip. Meanwhile, I'm secretly hoping for these bands to come to the NY area....

Yeah, I think that's why it didn't last well for me. Albums that are "immediately catchy" tend to wear thin after a while.

Side note - you can call me Jason if you want, but either way it's cool man. :)

But damn - the NY area would RULE!!! Still though, I am not taking ANY chances, so please let me know as soon as you possibly can. I'm freaking STOKED for this show.

You know, I find this to be generally true as well - almost like, icing rules, but if there's no cake, you can only take so much of it.

For some reason though, with Voimasta this hasn't happened to me yet.

Depends what Enslaved albums you speak of.

Dunno, to me you've got two Viking metal type bands.

Falkenbach, Helheim, latter Graveland, Enslaved, Hades, Nachtfalke all play a more black metal influenced type.

Thyrfing, Moonsorrow, Turisas, Ensiferum play a happier bombastic type.

I like both though.

Er...that's only if you refer to everything leading up to Voimasta. Their Kivinkentaja stuff elevated them into Falkenbach territory, and Verisakeet pushed them over the top!
