Most Hit or Miss Bands?

In Flames was just a band that had a fair amount of filler on everything from Whoracle onward. At least by Reroute to Remain they tried new things unlike on Clayman where they let about five really samey songs on the album.

I think Dream Theater is pretty balanced on each album. Awake, I&W, and SFAM don't really have any duds in my mind.

Graveland for me, which seems strange because of how little variance there is on each album. But for all the 2000s output, there will be 2-3 songs I really like and the rest will be sort of a snooze. Hard to pinpoint why.

There are Graveland songs I definitely like more on his newer work...Creator & Destroyer, Dance of Axes and Swords, Fire Dragon of Black Sun...the epic, experimental sounding final track on the new one, etc.

 this is why intophagist hates this place, whenever he makes a statement/post someone is always there to bash him for whatever reason. Randy moss has more tolerance for this only because I have reason to believe he is too retarded to realize we're making fun of him.

I would agree that overall, any band with a large discography has a lot of hit and miss.

Iron Maiden, DT, and In Flames all being great examples.

In RM's case...
It's almost unsatisfying...

and
In Flames is 100% miss.

Dying Fetus!

Purification Through Violence and Killing On Adrenaline were excellent, but every subsequent album had many crappy songs mixed in with some pure goodies!

everything beyond clayman is wankery.
.

Dark Tranquillity, i like The Gallery, Character and Fiction quite a bit but they have made a few albums i could do without.
Moonspell, Night Eternal kicks ass along with the album before it but i'm not sold on their earlier material at all.

im sure there are a shitload more but i can't think right now

Vinterriket. I think Dimmu Borgir can be a bit mit and miss at times as well. I also agree with Dark Tranquillity and In Flames. Soundtrack To Your Escape is some of the worst metal i have ever heard.

In Flames

Lunar Strain - Good
TJR - Good
Whor - Good
Col - Good
Clay - Good
R2R - Not bad
Sound - Horrible
Come - better than Soundtrack
ASOP - boring

Dark Tranquillity -

Skydancer - Good
Gallery - Good
Minds I - Good
Projector - poop
Haven - Good
DD - Good
Char - Decent
Fiction - good

DT are mad consistent, IF lost it in 2002 some say 99.

The Crown is definitely one of those bands for me. Their first demo I love, then their second demo and first album I find to be a bit subpar unless I'm really in the mood for the at times saccharine melodicism that can be found on there. Then Eternal Death is just superb. After the name change, they became good for at least a dud or three per album.

Manowar would be another one.

Agalloch - Some great songs and then some boring songs and instrumentals.

Satyricon - More miss than hit from what I've heard of them.

Soilwork - Some awesome early stuff but they have gotten worse and worse to unlistenable with their later material.

In Flames - first three or four albums are good, the rest is uneccessary.

Paradise Lost, Anathema, My Dying Bride, Katatonia - around every other song from these bands I don't care for. Great bands though.
