ok guys, just curious what's the one moment in any opeth song that makes you drop everything, stand up, and throw the double horns?

i gotta say 8:18 in by the pain i see in others, where the lead guitar comes in like wwwwwaaaaaaoaoaoaoaooo....you know what i mean :worship:

Yup...also at the Climax of the Blackwater park song, the Demon of the fall song is also very Metal moment like :headbang:

And the entire Still Life album :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

1:10... the transition and the next riff in the funeral portrait.. so awesome.

karma.. 6:25 to the end.

2:45 in Serenity painted death.

There are others that are near, but those are great.

^^^ Not Fair! You got more than one! Screw it, theres no way in hell ill be able to truthfully limit myself, so ill name a few too...

Ahhhh, the entire intro of of The Moor is bloody brilliant, i doubt anyone will argue there..
The Twilight Is My Robe begins with air-guitaring heaven..
The rain was waving goodbyyyyyyyyyyeee (if you dont know which song, you suck) surprises me everytime by the power behind it..
Searching my waaaaay to perplexion, ahhhhh...in crumbling faaaaaith i saw her...hearing this was what hooked me on Opeth, and to this day remains probably my definitive Opeth moment..
And last, but certainly not least, Deliverance, the final 4 minutes of melody versus counter-melody gets my head rocking no matter what mood im in. Not many songs can hold up this claim to fame.

wow, never noticed how much that wwwwwaaaaaaoaoaoaoaooo echoes for, sounds really weird.

The solo riff in Blackwater Park. 'Dun-dun dun-dun-dun... bwaaaa nyaanaaa neeee nana' \m/

The first metal solo in The Twilight is My Robe. Although that lost its punch after I learned to play it (and subsequently realized how easy it is to play).

'THE' riff in Serenity Painted Death. You know what I'm talking about... the best riff that anyone has ever written (no, not the chorus you bastards).

About Blackwater Park... are you referring to 5:13? Because that's my favourite riff on the entire song... and it's wicked!!

Also, the riff with the acoustic guitar on background (after "Taunting their bereavement") is eeeeeevil!!

I'd rather choose every moment than choose just one. There are definitely moments in Opeth's songs that are more reminiscent of '80s death metal and metal in general and moments more reminiscent of Opeth distinctive melodic sound. I think this one is a perfect balance of the two:

"It was all true
A parlour strode, and the night sets forever
I stray in the quiet cold
And you gird me when I dare to listen"

The meldoy and the build-up to the scream he holds on "listen." Unbelievably powerful, though the drums sound like machines. If they had recorded the album with a bit more energy, it would've sounded even better, and that's saying a lot.

I think mike should try and remaster the first two albums.. i know alot of you people would say it would change the mood and the overall experience of the songs, but he should give it a shot to see what he can do.

There are already people here who whine about Opeth selling out. Lets not give them any more fodder, eh? Just like with movies, great things should not be re-touched, re-worked or re-mastered. Appreciate it for what it is, or go listen to something else

I totally agree, I understand why some people might be like "but wouldn't it be cool if they went back and re-recorded/remastered some stuff" but honestly, it is already done. it's finished. it's become part of the opeth canon. the first two albums are best the way they are, warts and all (yes, even the requiem/apostle in triumph mastering fuckup). it's like the south park episode where spielberg wants to go back and change all the guns in his movies to walkie-talkies. if they ever did decide to re-release "improved" versions of those albums (which is something mikael would never ever agree to do), i wouldn't buy them.
