Most Overrated Metal Band

OVERRATED: Illuminate, Umbra Et Imago and a bunch of other crappy German "goth rock" bands. Why? They're fucking cheesy and yet get so much attention.

UNDERRATED: Agalloch - because this band is fucking great and yet hardly anybody knows them.

Yes! Big fan of Jim Plotkin's old project (O.L.D.), and Dave Witte's stuff as well... had no idea they were that underground!

Pantera may have started as a glam band before they recorded anything, but Cowboy's from Hell is not a glam album. Vulgar Display of Power started what has become one of the most distinct sounds in the history of metal. There is no possible way you can justify calling Pantera "trend hoppers". That is the stupidest comment I have ever heard.

I didn't say Cowboys... was glam. I said eveything before that was glam. It''s like Motley Crue realizing that glam is out, so "Hey, let's become death metal, it getting popular". And if anyone can honestly tell me that their last few albums were decent, at best, well then you like mediocrity.

Also, Pantera is headed by metal's #1 slut.

lmfao here death metal?? thrash?? lmao glam is about the only one that was right when describing Glamtera you slay me!!! but seriously now Pantera are just a bunch of hypocrites who called them selves the trend killers just to become liked sorry if you don't agree with that but its the truth in my eyes cause they are complete and utter trend based they have made some good music in the past but their whole image is just complete bullshit.

You people are looking at only Phil Anselmo. Pantera as a band has a very distinct sound. It has nothing in common with glam.

At least, not anymore.

Can anyone even name all of Phil's bands?

I think Phil has great ambition and a very distinct voice. He could end up being one of the all time great "front men". However, his other projects have not done what I'd hoped. I'm not saying they are bad. I was hoping for better. Phil tries, as much as record labels allow, to support the underground. I think that is very admirable.

Yeah, I saw Pantera before they were signed... spandex, bad perms and makeup. Put on a show though, and for glam, their music wasn't horrible.

At least they're getting heavier as they age....

Something many Metallicrap fans definitely can't say...

right!!!!

lets have a quick look at this!!!!!!!

okay, recent comments

Pantera? .. trend followers !!! no way.. they sound like no-one else, and there are hundreds of bands trying to sound like them, but cant due to phils distinctive voice and darrells great guitar playing ... i will agree some of phils side projects arent as good as they should be, but the fact is at least he is giving it a go,

Opeth? .. how ANYONE can call Opeth over-rated i dont know!! .. thats gotta be one of the most stupidest comments, seeing as opeth are ridiculously talented, great song writers, and altogether damn nice guys!! ..

okay, i am now going to look back at the comments someone made about meshuggah, so i can rip into that, seeing as meshuggah are one of the finest things ever to walk the planet!!

well,, i just trawled back quite a few pages to find this!! ..

right ,, i can understand cradle of filth being on there cos they are shite!! first album rules, the rest just gets progressively worse as it goes on, resulting in being crap right at the end!!

dimmu borgir aint overrated i dont think , i think they are ace, and shit all over a lot of the mainstream BM bands ..

BUT!! how the FUCK anyone can say Meshuggah are overrated is beyond me, Meshuggah are quite possibly, along with Dillinger Escape Plan about the most talented band on the planet, and are far UNDER-rated if anything .. they changed the face of most of the technical metal around the world, adding in rhythms that most people still cant actually comprehend

they completely changed how i perceive music in the first place about 8 years ago, and still continue to do so.. fredrik thordendal is without any doubt the best guitarist around, along with alexi laiho of children of bodom (a band i dont like but can appreciate their immaculate talents)

albums like "destroy erase improve" are one off albums that very few bands can emulate, and not even a great deal of people can even understand, such is the genius and complexity behind every note and riff and pattern ..

i suggest you go back and take another listen to meshuggah (and also learn to spell the name correct) ..

and no, im not being pedantic, i am trying to make you realize that no matter how much people rate meshuggah, they can never over-rate them!!

PaulTangaroa is cool! I agree with him on everything except Dimmu Borgir. I still think Dimmu isn't as good as people give them credit. I like them, but I think it is a shame when I can walk into a record store and find 5 times as many Dimmu CD's as Emperor, Satyricon, or any other black metal band (except CoF).
