Most Overrated Metal Guitarists?

Chill.

I've actually been talking to him for the past hour or so on AIM, he's actually a pretty good guy and I do apologize for trashing him how I did, that does show some judgmental/assholish tendencies I tend to have. Alestorm is actually on my daily playlist.

James wasn't in Alestorm. Death, Testament, Disincarnate, Konhkra, Obituary, Cancer are a few. And you should go look at his "Guest Appearances". Too many to list.

Me finding out that he was in The Gathering TOTALLY reshaped the conversation we were having, alone :p

I was talking about Lasse as far as Alestorm

Awesome thread, lets hate on all the guitarists who made the genre famous! :headbang:

Shreddy listen to some Praxis, you'll chagne your tune about buckethead. His solo stuff I dig, obviously very down to personal opinion, but all the fucked up avant-garde shit he's been a part of is FUCKING MINDBLOWING.

Also, I'd write a list of other guitarists I find overrated, but I have VASTLY different beliefs of what music is, what music can be, what music SHOULD be to 99% of this board, so I'm just gonna keep pretty well out of this one.

how is this good in any form of musical technicality?

it just pisses me off to know people like this fucking retard got praised for reasons in which he didn't deserve it.

some might say "oh! he has feeling! blah blah!"

he was also on acid and played like shit.

+1  I agree; Hendrix is extremely overrated. I respect Elvis more as a technical and talented guitarist than I do Jimi. :p Hahaha.

Yeah but I'm not just being an opinionated cunt about everything, to put it lightly.
I don't particularly enjoy Randy Rhode's playing, and I had my phase of worshipping Hendrix when I was 14, but to say they suck is way too far and just shows you up as a judgemental asshole, when in reality, most of us know you're a pretty nice guy.
I'm keeping it to myself because I have a fundamental difference in musical taste to most members of this forum and opening my mouth would be a waste of everyone's time and energy, because there will be a FUNDAMENTAL disagreement there that can't be changed.
I could easily come in here and say that I think Slash is boring as fuck, I could come in here and say I fucking hate everything Metallica have ever done, but what good would that be when I think genius guitar playing is tuning down to drop z, hitting the strings once and letting it feedback for an hour?
You just came in and started being a cunt, pure and simple.
But hey, I'm done with the lecture ;)
LETS ALL GET ALONG AGAIN! :)

ESPECIALLY in that video it counts FUCK ALL how cleanly he plays etc...
he's playing the star spangled banner at woodstock in front of thousands of hippies...do you guys really think he was doing it to show his shred-skilss...and if he did do you think anyone would have cared if it was a technically perfect interpretation of the anthem?lol.

I don't think anyone who hasn't been around that time (and I include myself) can totally understand how important and influential these guys were.

there's more to music than just technical perfection....

that said....I dont like it myself, lol....but I appreciate him for the novelty his style of playing was.

it's very much the same with any kind of art....any copy/printer combi from wallmart and even a stupid cellphone cam makes better pictures (technically) than say monet....but do you really think people in 100yrs will have HP-printers in museums?

You just came in and started being a cunt, pure and simple.
I can only speak for me, but THAT exactly was the problem..not his opinion being different

Yeah most people I've played for would rather hear something that they know/enjoy/can relate to more than what scale your fucking with.
That's why Hendrix is who he is.
He tripped the fuck out the guitar.

I still hope, ALL this bashings I have read here, was satire and not seriously. I cannot imagine that legendary guitarists who´ve wrote history and set culturally standards, not get the deserved appreciation and respect!

Don´t forget...Death Metal or whatever-core only exists, because one (in your opinion) unspectacular guitarist began playing some blues on his guitar.

Oh noes my feelings got hurted,

I'm gonna quit guitar and /life now because some little fuckhead thinks he knows what he's talking about.

Do me a favor and go kill yourself while I go talk to someone that's worth talking to.

(James)

PS I'm better than you.

I am done with this thread though, it's pointless to keep arguing about such a one-sided and closedminded subject that doesn't even belong in a PRODUCTION forum.

you DO realize that James Murphy said you're an ignorant piece of crap for saying Randy Rhoads is overrated right?
