Most Overrated Metal Guitarists?

Oh how I love the "Bedroom shredders".

They never understand all they're doing is copying something that somebody (i.e. Randy Rhodes) paved the way for.

If you can shred, but can't play a 12bar blues jam....you're hopeless.

Avenged Sevenfold
Chris Broderick
Dimebag (Sorry, but he died a few years ago, and really wasn't as great as people put on. Let it fucking go.)
John Petrucci
Slash
Michael Amott
Rusty Cooley
LAMB OF GOD :)Puke::puke::puke:)
Yngwie Fagsteen
Buckethead
Buckethead
Randy Rhoads +982375

I know I can think of more..

Are you fucking joking?

I usually stay out of these "bashing" threads, but.......Over rated guitarist? Here's one: ShreddyMarz. Seriously...I've heard your stuff dude. Just a lot of (vocalized) attitude from someone that is less than spectacular. Please keep your adolescent temper tantrums to yourself. In other words....grow up (and quit smoking whatever you're obviously smoking).

very well put.
and even if it#s just the technical stuff/shredding that is being rated here...I'
d still say there are a bunch of guys here on this very forum giving shreddymarz a run for his money....so he would be better adviced to shut up before he's making an even bigger fool out of himself than he's already done

Seriously, right? They try and attack classic guitarists because they were not doing some sort of insane technical shredding. As if that is the only important aspect of being a good guitarist.

:zombie: ZING!

Seriously though dude. Bedroom shredders are a "dime-a-dozen". When you're actually in a band and have pictures of you playing on stage instead of sitting on your bed, you might actually gain some street-cred.

Definitly reminds me of when Chris Storey (All Shall Perish) told me how much Chuck Shuldiner sucked. o_O

Kids these days.

Oh noes my feelings got hurted,

I'm gonna quit guitar and /life now because some little fuckhead thinks he knows what he's talking about.

Do me a favor and go kill yourself while I go talk to someone that's worth talking to.

(James)

PS I'm better than you.

I am done with this thread though, it's pointless to keep arguing about such a one-sided and closedminded subject that doesn't even belong in a PRODUCTION forum.

Seriously? How can one play in a death metal band, and have absolutely no respect for Chuck, one of the founding fathers of death metal? Chuck was amazing, this makes me lose a lot of respect for Chris Storey.

That just shows how ignorant you are. I'm sure all the Testaments and Deaths are calling you to come play, huh.

Can you back that up with some album sales? I'm sure James can.

Why don't you put up your resume vs his.

All bullshit aside, most of us here have checked out your videos, etc. and dude, contrary to your belief it's nothing to write home about. Just pointless wanking. Sorry to burst your bubble dude.

haha, how old are you? ;)
Don't think older than 18, right?
have you done anything in your life so far worth mentioning?
I've got some CDs to show that I played guitar on that sold some (ten)thousand times...I know, by fat not as many as James for example, and I'd never say I'm playing in the same league as him....but definitely more than you can show...have you done ANYTHING in your life so far that you could show to show your supremacy?
if not...just shut it, practice humbleness and grow up.
you don't really think I can take you serious, do you?
sorry, but I've met 200 of your type before I even turned 20 (which was like 10 years ago now).
I think if you'd say much longer in this forum (believe me, won't happen) you'd learn that this is not the forum you can show this attidue on...go back to HCAF

Chill.

I've actually been talking to him for the past hour or so on AIM, he's actually a pretty good guy and I do apologize for trashing him how I did, that does show some judgmental/assholish tendencies I tend to have. Alestorm is actually on my daily playlist.

Also, with all of you talking shit on my playing, take into consideration the post-date of those, and how much I've improved since then. I tend to get 1.5x better each year. All arguments and shit like that aside, I'd like to point out James has opened my mind a little bit as far as music in the whole goes. And yes, I'm only 19 and a struggling musician. I'm JUST starting to get my name out there, and it truly isn't an easy task seeing as how many 'bedroom shredders' there are out there. How can you guys trash on 'bedroom shredders' when most of the musicians you love started out this way (as I am?) You gotta start somewhere.

I didn't really mean to offend anybody and I'm sorry if I did.

I still hate Rhoads :p

lol this thread is so great to read!

Here's my thoughts on some of the aforementioned characters:

Alexi Laiho:

I think Alexi was a very talented musician and composer at one time.
He had very good chops on all of his albums and I think on the earlier albums his riffs and solos are very tasteful.
Back then he was all about "the music" and I think it showed back then

I think when Bodom started getting popular and Alexi started getting recognized as a "popular guitarist" alot of the fame got to his head
and I think he started to change his attitude towards music. He stopped practicing, started trying to write music for the money or popularity, (call it selling out if you want) and he let alcohol and drugs get in the way, even more so than before. He wrote Are You Dead Yet in like only a few months, he practically pulled it out of his ass in the studio because he was too busy drinking on tour to write songs.

So My thoughts is that he was a great guitarist at one point but let shit get to his head and it ruined his reputation.
I do not think he is a good role model as far as being a good person

If you are interested, check out this video of him around 16-17 years old, playing some jazz fusion at his university

Randy Rhoads, Yeah I think he was great for the times, but I think if he had lived, there's a good possibility that he might have gone down the same road as a lot of other guys.

Some could argue that Zakk Wylde was really good back before he grew a beard, dimebag before he started being a toughguy, and a bunch of other guys before fame screwed up their music, maybe Randy would have wrote NU-metal with ozzy if he never died and people thought he was awesome. who the fuck knows

well, you should perhaps watch how you word things then.
it's cool if James has been able to explain to you what the deal with EVH and RR etc is.
it's not that you said they suck...it's how you're calling people "fcukheads" etc, that's an attitude that doesn't go down well on this forum.
so, I'm gonna calm down myself now ;)
..and about the alestorm...haha, I wouldn't be able to repeat even one of the solos myself now, lol.I had to improvise them in like 6 hours total (all 12 solos or what it is), so my main goal was to not repeat myself too obviously and not to show off......cool if you dig it though ;)
