most solid metal album of 2007 so far?

What about Dark Passion Play guys?

Nightwish's new album is actually better then what I expected, I actually prefer the new vocalist over Tarja, and the song "The Poet And The Pendulum" off of Dark Passion Play is fucking epic

has anyone listened to the new Blinded By Faith?

Six Feet Under - Commandment
Gorefest - Rise To Ruin
Nuclear Blast Allstars - Out Of The Dark
Through The Eyes Of The Dead - Malice

Really? Cammandment I thought I was the only one here who enjoyed that.
I'm going to have to say
Dimmu Borgir-In Sorte Diaboli
Through the eyes of the Dead-Malice
Darkest Hour-Deliver Us
or 3 inches of blood-Fire up the Blades

Has anyone heard nominons new album "terra necrosis" I have yet to hear it but I hope it's a worthy follow up of recremation.

For metal, I will say the new Peste Noire. I gave that a spin last night and it really hit me hard. Also the new Jesu is good.

In non-metal. Spoon's GA GA GA GA GA and Interpol's Our Love To Admire are both good.

^ really? I thought the new Peste Noire was disappointing...I mean, it's good but compared to their earlier material I think it's a let-down.

I find just as good as the first one. I really the new one destroys most of modern black metal. Plus it just has that evil French atmosphere, which does not make sense if you dont have a French background, which creates a great mood. Plus it was a bitch to get it here in Chicago.

Hmm...well i like some of their demos, and I really enjoyed their debut album and I own it. But the new one...I really enjoy their style but it just seems like there is something missing, like it could have been written better, and if I remember aren't the songs a bit shorter?

Listening to the new Ancient Rites right now...pretty fun stuff if you like their past works. Not sure if I'll like it as much with successive spins though.

edit: well now I'm listening to Weltanschauung and compared to this, that new ancient rites kinda sucks. :-/

99% of what I heard this year was disapointing.

Maybe I'm just tired of metal or something?

I've tried moving into doom metal instead but I don't like that genre much, some songs are great but it's too slow for my taste.

I pretty much have to agree with you. There hasn't been a single album that has truly amazed me this year. The past couple years I've really made an effort to explore what's out there instead of just checking out select albums like most normally do - and I can honestly say, 2007 fails to even compare to last year, not even close. There was a heap of phenomenal releases last year and none this year. Of course I give credit to Sacrificia Mortuorum, Walknut, Control Human Delete & Scars of Chaos as they are my favourites this year but none of those are amazing. Of course there's been numerous other strong albums but I've said this before, if I was to create a top50 list with albums from the past couple years, I'd probably only include about 5 albums from this year or certainly no more than 10 would make it.

Can anyone recommend me some good Death Metal albums released this year...not melodic death or brutal death (ie. Deeds of Flesh style).

I generally prefer an in-your-face style, heavy, aggressive death metal with good production but not over-produced...ideally, something like the band Panzerchrist. Nile, Akercocke, The County Medical Examiners, Drawn and Quartered have released albums this year that I've enjoyed.

Aborted, Arkhon Infaustus, Dying Fetus, Necros Christos, Requiem, Sarpantium have also released fairly good albums.

Feel free to make any recommendations....I did not like the new Behemoth album btw.

Check out Crionics - Neuthrone.

Three albums have knocked me on my ass this year

The Absence - Riders Of The Plague
Dark Tranquillity - Fiction
Korpiklaani - Tervaskanto
