Most underrated guitarists

I don't see how Hetfield or Hammett, two of the most famous guitarists in the world, could be considered underrated.

This, as much as I love Hetfield, and kirk's older stuff (what with Metallica being *prepare cliche statement* the band that got me in to metal), By that logic Marty Friedman is the most insanely underrated guy ever.

Jochem and Bart of Textures. They have finally got some recognition now that djent is the new thing, but they still aren't getting nearly enough if you ask me :Spin:

+1 Christian Kuhn, although it's actually Lille that writes 99% of the music afaik

Also, because no-one here will really know who I was talking about... Diego Sanchez:

Concentrate on figuring out his rhythms.... serious.

Kurt Ballou from Converge. He gets lots of props as a producer, but doesn't get nearly the recognition he deserves as a guitarist.

Chris Haskett from Rollins Band. He was a big influence on my when I was learning how to play. Such a unique style and so many killer riffs.

Haskett is the the man, I love Rollins but I think that band would have been better off with a singer that could have sang or done more for the music. Sometimes Rollins hit it out of the park, "Low Self Opinion" for example.

Ballou is also an excellent pick, really not a great player in the traditional sense but Converge really has become something quite unique over the years. His style reminds me of a more metal Greg Ginn meets later era Ian Macaye. Absurdly fearless.

This is really weird, suicimez hired a SLOPPY as fuck guitarist after christian left, I mean holy shit I've seen 15 year old kids play the epitaph solo cleaner...

His rhythm playing is pretty terrible too, sounds like he can't keep up with suicmez...

come on dude, I am listening to consume the forsaken since its release ;) and Dan knows them, too.

My vote goes to Dan Mongrain (Martyr) and Jörn Langenfeld, vocalist, songwriter and guitar
player in one of the most underrated tech-death bands on earth, Subconcious.
This guy is the shit! believe me, too bad that the recordings aren't the best imho.

These are from his solo albums:

Me, obviously... there's not one mention in the whole thread! :p

Surprised Michael Romeo was mentioned, I think he is a very well respected and known guitarist. I think Per Nilsson qualifies for underrated/unknown.

^^No, I just know that quite a few people around here don't appreciate his talents. I'm looking at you...Marcus ;)

Almost forgot...Jørn Viggo Lofstad of Pagan's Mind.
