Eh "good" Techno is fine for like a minute and a half of listening then it just get repetitive and irritating IMO. There isn't an outstanding hook to it.
Pretty much... or they like really popular and overrated works like Moonlight Sonata or Pachelbel's Canon and therefore think they like classical music. Yet if you ask them what are their fav works by say Shoshtakovich, Bruckner, Takemitsu, et al they are like "wha?". This is not a criticism, merely pointing out that it is in fact rare to find people who are actually really into this music.
I find myself somewhere between the two, I would like to get into it but it's quite a daunting task. It tends to be just the odd composer that really stands out to me, almost at random and other similar composers wont do anything for me at all. I love Scriabin, Saint-Saens, Satie but can't find any consinstancy with the styles i like, though I lean towards the impressionists.
I'm a big contemporary classical, post-classical and neo-classical fan though, Artists like Sylvain Chauveau, Chaz Knapp, Olafur Arnolds and Johann Johannssonn. Would be interested to know if anybody else here is into these genres.
I haven't heard those newer composers... it would be cool to give them a spin. I mostly know the older, more classic guys and some of the really popular modern composers like Part; Penderecki, et al.
If that's your allusion to classical music, then definitely not. In fact, many people loathe it and its stuck-up fanbase
