Movies

Narnia sucked. Characters were obnoxious, flat, boring, and predictable.

Checking out The Squid and The Whale tommorow night, not sure what to expect with this one.

Where The Buffalo Roam

Bill Murray as Hunter S Thompson? AWESOME. Seriously on a quality level like that of Depp's Raoul Duke. Though Peter Boyle only had a few moments where he made a formidable character as Thompson's attorney. Del Toro was far superior in this regard.

And while the movie was lacking in that poignant message that suddenly bursts from the rubble of insanity that HST's writing employed so well, and Fear and Loathing (the movie) did a great job working in... it still makes for an enjoyable adventure, if only for Murray. Perhaps if the movie included a message of this sort it would have made it a classic.. instead it just feels a bit too lifeless.

Silent Hill
Mediocre, was really improved from the moment they reached the church for the first time. Some great visuals, but annoyingly computerized effects, and poor performances (except the little girl, and the chief witchburner). Huge copy of all that is Hellraiser in many moments.

i feel like watching some porn if anyone cares.
btw, watched born on the 4th of july the other day. average movie in most respects and very depressing. the best though is all the accidental (as in "actors who werent yet famous") cameos. there were several i noticed just by watching the movie but from the credits i discovered vivica fox played a hooker for about 3 seconds and james legros (of phantasm 2 fame) was a soldier alongside tom cruise for about 10 seconds. newman (seinfeld), dr. cox (scrubs), and two baldwin brothers are quite easily recognizable though...

it's taking forever to quote a post so

by chromatose: "I watched OUT (aka Deadly Drifter)

costarring DANNY GLOVER , is it merely random nonsense or a veritable postmodern masterpiece??!

The latter!

but is there even a difference?? That's the beauty of po-mo!"

i have it on vhs i win :loco:

Cool Hand Luke

Pretty righteous, and that opening scene has to be the best way to start a movie, EVAR.

Ice Harvest- This movie was a complete fucking waste of 90 minutes. Comedy? Nope. Drama and Suspense? Nope

I could not form a relationship with any of the characters in this film. The killing scenes were fucking cartoonish. Maybe that's what they meant by "hilarious comedy"? :eer:

History of Violence- Now this is a good film.

Pom Poko. Another Studio Ghibli release (yeah, someday I'll see them all) and another one of my favourite movies of ALL FUCKING TIME. Seriously, after watching this stuff I'm convinced that Disney should have packed it in a long time ago and had these guys take over. So much more depth, complexity, emotion, imagination, etc. all without sacrificing the qualities that I imagine kids would appreciate.

edit: I'm about to watch another one, Grave of the Fireflies, a story about two young children orphaned by WWII in Japan. I'm at the point now where I'll shell out good money for any Studio Ghibli release completely blind. And theres a new one coming soon!

Why?

edit: I think it is or was banned in Australia because it can be seen as justifying the role of the Japanese in the war

Negative, bought this at the local Virgin Music store. "Bleak" doesn't begin to describe it though.
