I have an immense respect for the way Joey produces. I've just thought he's needed to get an engineer on board to worry about the technical stuff for him, going on years now. Mixing around and changing up the mixes from time to time would be great, but it's obvious that it's something only needed to sate the engineers. The crowds and bands obviously just want more of the same, over and over and over, which is probably highly indicative of why a popular music industry still exists. Whatever works.

I think it's incorrect to compare Joey alongside engineers on this forum though. That's almost like comparing two different roles in the business. His strength and focus is on production, whereas a lot of the guys here aren't as active in that department as they are in doing the grunt work of pulling tones. It's just a focus thing, no one single person has time to do it all adequately with the deadlines and budgets we work on. If Joey were to pair himself with a good engineer that were given the time to 'chase the flame', as it is, it might be a very momentous day.

I hate when the band decides how the song is going to be while they´re tracking. I wonder if these guys ever practice. I can´t understand how they don´t take the time to sit back one day before to discuss every part that everyone is playing to come to a consent. Last week a guitarrist almost started a fight with a drummer here and at the end of discussion the mood was all gone.

On the topic, terrible band, but great mix as always Joey. By the way, is there going to be a new release from 7 Days Away? IMO it´s a really underated band and I hope they keep working with you.

this song was written as we recorded it. its pretty thrown together actually, but it came out pretty good despite that.

if a band comes to my studio with songs they wrote a year ago and have been practicing for some time
then sure, i'll try all sorts of new things, because the songs really arent in question

but when a band comes into the studio with 2 songs and expects to write, practice, record, and edit 10 more... well there's not much time for hooking up amps and moving mics around now, is there?
especially when the band is made up of 6 people who disagree about everything OR have so much ADD that they change everything possible at the worst possible times

this is the usual situation in my realm, and this is what i deal with on a dialy basis, so you get what you get with the circumstances, time frame, budget, blah blah

the clean break on this song was literally sent to me a day before i mixed the song, it used to be a completely different part, i had to cut the song up and hit delete, and insert that clean break thing in there. thats just the way things go.

on a lighter note, i love the attack attack dudes, and we have a lot of fun when we hang out and work on stuff. but some situations arent always the best, which means lots of "preset" action on my part. when i mix i tweak around, but usually im under the gun when im mixing (due in 3 days or something like that). so i dont really have time to scratch my chin and a/b shit all day.
