Gojira is bad nowadays. I'd much rather listen to hardcore tbqh.
Look, most of the stuff I said about Symphony X was just to get a rise out of you; you made some ridiculous claim about their "sheer awesomeness overshadowing any other band" and told me to fuck myself... so, sorry to be a dick, but I think your post warranted it.
2). The "sheer awesomeness overshadows any other band" part. This is obviously incorrect. As an example, I offer Pink Floyd, who clean the floor with the entire heavy metal genre.
3). The "their lyrics aren't cheesy at all" part. You present The Odessey for your side of the argument: I'm not sure what you consider "oh yes, we'll ride through stormy skies... OF FIRE!" if not cheesy. I actually laughed (happily, though, I'll admit) when I heard that line.
The comparison to Dream Theater is one that gets tossed around alot, probably because people hear all the shredding and assume that SX is trying to be "technical." In reality, SX seem to focus much more on the lyrical/vocal aspect of things, with the shredding just providing a backdrop; sort of the inverse of the DT approach, which is all about technicality. In truth I would hardly even view Symphony X as prog at all, and I only contrasted them with Dream Theater because they're commonly associated with one another (SX are going to be playing support for DT on a coming tour, incidentally).
The comparsion to Dragonforce is purely lyrical.
Btw, S<issors listen to the last four minutes of The Odyssey for the best vocal performance Russel has ever given. Absolutely amazing.
Actually listen to that song because it is SO much more than just shredding, and completely kicks ass.
It's power metal, do you really expect a different type of vocal style there?
I'd say Job For A Cowboy is a pretty good guess. Like it or not, they've got that special crappy sound that just draws all the "ZOMG BLACK METAL LOL" kids like moths to a light.

Pretty sure that no one can argue with the "cleans the floor with the metal genre" statement, though.
Job for a Cowboy?!
Yeah I can. Pink Floyd is awfully boring, whereas I find entertainment in metal. I like some prog. rock, but Pink Floyd isn't nearly as good as so many make them out to be - not even 1/2 as good.
i guess just 10% of the bands that were mentioned here will be classics in the future...
Strapping Young Lad???
