New Metallica song "Day That Never Comes"

The hunger is gone I guess...when you go from living in a uhaul/van to being a millionaire...the passion is lost.
Does this guy look like he can write a great album? ....maybe 20 years ago.

For me this is another great example of that the sum is more than the parts.
Analyzing won´t do the music justice.
Either you are in the mood for this or not.
It`s nothing special, but it`s Metallica.
And i think it`s a lot about how grown up fans (musicians) perceive the music in terms of what it gave to them in their youth.

I really dig the new song,.. Shall wait to see what the full album is like. I've recently become an "album" kinda guy..

I actually liked the song up through the 2nd chorus, and then wanted to shot myself on the head. As Andy said, it seems theres not much structure, and after that chorus, they just play random chords until they get bored.

I hope that autotune was used as an effect or something...because it sounds like the retune speed is just way too fast. Listen around 1:30. Actually the whole intro for that matter.

Now I know it's easy to sit back and point out stuff like that after it's all said and done...I just don't know how all those guys signed off on it.

Random thoughts

I love Rick Rubin's work for the most part, but his love of dry drums fucks the beginning of this song as does the squishing. Learning the end would be a chore. This song would probably be better in a live situation. Someone let Lars hit some fucking toms. Fuck I can't take the clipping. The KEA solo section is fun. The One meets Am I Evil triplet thing @5:45 gets old fast. The bass seems totally masked in the end section. Definitely more ambitious than hungry. WWCBD?

raw drum mixes work great for system of a down but i feel like this mix is dull and lifeless and does not add anything to the song. and andy is right the song lacks a lot of structure which is what gives it that justice vibe. this whole cd from songwriting, to performance, to the sonic aspects are like 100% ANTI bob rock. it's like they sat down and said let's do the exact opposite of bob rocks production technique. it's because they tried going for that dry sound on st.anger and it failed along with the whole record. they should have let randy staub mix this.
