New Metallica song "Day That Never Comes"

I'm a huge Metallica fan, but only just had the chance to listen to this. I don't find this to sound any better than Load/Reload, it sounds very weak even in comparison to St Anger's performances, like they really couldn't give two shits when they tracked this. Like there is no anger and aggression in them anymore. The actual song is ok, but not old school sounding by any means, and the mixing is really bad as well. Hopefully this is like a studio demo or something, and on the real version Rick will have pushed them to actually perform like their life depends on it, not like "do whatever, I don't give a shit".

sounds like, sounds al littlle bit like, sounds exactly like....i can't read this anymore! c'mon guys, what's wrong with your ears!?
any real musician here?
anybody who can hear the difference between E and C?
any non-deaf people here?

fuck!

word!

I still like the first half of the song, but the second half isn't doing anything for me.. I just can't remember it.

The first half I can though, so I guess once it's out (properly..) it might fit into context with the other songs,..

I've just had my first listen to this song.
If I dont compare it to any other Metallica stuff it strikes me as another tribute band. Granted, paying respects to one of the most influential groups is heart warming and in some cases necessary... I can't help thinking that it sounds like Metallica is trying pretty hard to be Metallica.
Although, logically, lets take a few seconds to recognize that the members of Metallica are most likely lost in an ever changing world and that their glory days would most likely daunt them in some way shape or form. I cannot imagine considering myself a superstar or whatever I'd be if I were a founding member of Metallica. What I can imagine, however, is that if I had achieved global status as a rock musician over the course of my career, I'd most likely look forward to wanting to keep that status given the amount of respect and love for my work I'd receive over my life.
Then again, I'm a nobody on this planet and the members of Metallica aren't.
I really wanted to like the song if not purely for the sake of just having something decent to listen to, at least for the nostalgia of my youth.
With all I've said aside, the song was boring and I've heard better shit from bedrooms produced by people who've probably learned most of what they know (if not everything) off this forum alone.
I feel embarassed for Metallica lately.

Excuse my ignorance here, but what the fuck are you on about?

I thought so too. This sounds way too forced. If this is the case, they should just be honest with themselves and write whatever comes natural to them, even if its not very metal like. Im sure in the end most fans would all rather hear a decent rock record than a half assed metal record.

What it sounds a little bit like is a little bit of Metallica here, and a little bit of Metallica there...ripping off their own riffs...and not even playing them well. I've heard teenage garage cover bands sound more like Metallica than this. What this does sound a LOT like however, is total, stinking, uninspired crap. That's what it sounds a lot like. Tuning? Yeah....it's in Standard Crap.

idiot:rolleyes:

i'm outta here.

They've played the new stuff live.. so if anyone's seen them at Reading / Leeds - then they can tell us whether they changed guitars (apparently they play And Justice.. right after).
So, if there's no changing of guitars - it's in Standard, if they change - it maybe in C.

uh:Smug:

Really, you can't tell that its not in freaking C!?!

maybe Soultrash is right about some of you being deaf:lol:

The first half of the song is in A minor, the second one they switch to the 5th, E minor. I'm 100% sure about what I say..
As for the tuning of the guitars, they're probably in E.

OMFG!
it's NOT about in which tune TDTNC was recorded...
it's NOT about that!!!!

when i read all those "sounds like" comments they make me think your guys
ears are that fuckin bad that you are not able to differ an E from a C.
holy shit, is my english that bad???

...and plz don't tell me it's sarcasm...it's definitely not!
