New Metallica song "Day That Never Comes"

Some people here are really full of hate regarding Metallica. I ask myself why, cause I don't think it's a bad track. I have the feeling people are overcritical with Metallica, because they were the heros of their youth or something. But remember back then when we were younger pretty much everything was exciting, because it was new.
And to the autotune thing... I guess you could throw more than half of your CD collection in the bin if you want to listen to vocals totally untuned.

Maybe they spotted the bad reactions and are going to rerecord the whole album :p Well, they DO have two weeks!! :)

So, it is true that the real Hetfield got killed on the bus accident along with Cliff...

i dont think people are full of hate as so much as we would all just like an album up to the standards of ride the lightning or master of puppets.

+1

I wonder how an album like MOP would translate to today's standards in the industry though... In terms of sound etc. etc.

Haha, i was just listening to the new song in the background of my internet surfing and on one of the solo sections i found myself completely by accident singing Motorbreath lyrics!

The backing is EXACTLY the same as Motorbreath from Kill 'Em All.

maybe they should stop, they seem to be drilling themselves into a deeper hole now with every album they release and are going to ruin the old legend of metallica : ( I still dont get how the writers of such beautiful compositions on justice and puppets could possibly be now creating this stuff and be happy to release.

Into a depper hole??? What??? I like the song and I'm not the only one. Much better than Load, Reload and St. :puke:

NO! no... and yes.

Load and Reload were their last ditch effort, IMO... and I like a few songs from those albums...

but, jesus... I found myself getting agitated listening to this new one... i started getting all worked up and mad... that never happens to me...

and I dont mean in a "start an office-moshpit" kind of way...

The version I listened to from metallica.com was clipping all over the place, but I heard it on the radio today, and there was no clipping.

Probably just a tactic to keep a clean mp3 file off the net I would guess

Thought the song was kinda boring anyway though

Finally listened to the song, found it on YouTube. I think most of the stuff up through the first chorus is listenable, but far from impressive. The pseudo-"One" breakdown part sounds sloppy and gross and boring...and especially the last two or three minutes of the song is just total crap. The last ten seconds with those horrendous fills was the worst part for me, and luckily that was the end of the song, because if that mindless rocking had gone on any longer from that point, I would have turned it off. Those leads are the only redemptive quality in the second half, but they really aren't that cool either. And beyond the obvious songwriting shortcomings, it boggles my mind that Metallica, a band who is rich, famous, and can record with anyone they wish, still ends up with recordings that aren't up to par. It's ridiculous! When James says in interviews that he's been listening to Trivium and likes it a lot, then why don't they choose Andy or Colin when the time comes to do new material?

Here's a statement from a Metallica rep in regards to the clipping (on Blabbermouth):

"METALLICA fans,

"My name is Benjamin. I work in fan support for Mission: Metallica.

"I am sorry for the bulk e-mail, but we've heard from quite a few of you regarding the sound quality on the single release of 'The Day That Never Comes'.

"The source of the problem, as you might imagine, goes all the way back to the creation of the track from master — but this is not how it will sound on the album.

"We've identified the source of the problem to prevent it in any subsequent singles released in advance of September 12.

"If we can have another one put together and sent out prior to that date, there may be a higher-quality release of 'The Day That Never Comes' made available, but I can't guarantee it at this time."

Unless I'm completely missing something, it sounds like it was a just a piss-poor mastering job...?

Wow, I'm just hoping for something that doesn't completely suck. When I listen to the last couple of Kreator, Exodus, and Testament records...even Metal Church, it really becomes obvious how much Metallica has lost the plot when it comes to making good thrashy metal compared to their contemporaries. At this point, I just want them to do something remotely interesting in some way, shape, or form.

There are a few decent riffs and okay ideas there that go nowhere. Rick Rubin should have forced them to tighten things up a big into a more coherent mass. It's not that they have too many riffs, it's that they are too random. BITD, they took a more Mercyful Fate-like approach to throwing a pile of riffs at one song, and it worked incredibly well. I think they need to go to Hank Shermann's remedial school of metal arranging.

How could I question you? :p
Personally Ride the Lightning is my favourite Metallica album, cause it has a special atmosphere and is very melodic.
I'm not a huge fan of Master of Puppets. I only like some riffs and the very melodic parts.
But that's over 20 years ago... is there any band that suddenly released a killer album 20 years after their "best"?

The clipping in the MetClub release was intentional. I got a buddy who works at a local radio station and he compared the copy sent to them, and the radio version is nice and clean.
The first thing I noticed about the version we received was the snare-clipping. Cool Edit shows the clipping as well so... :Smug:
