I think Zeph should join the Marines (I never recommend that), gain some much needed discipline and perspective.

Really dude? The Military? You are actually suggesting this?

Zeph is waayyyy too smart to join the Military, c'mon!

The majority of people who join are dumb, desperate(poor) or insane.

Is he? Intelligence without discipline is useless.

Zeph lacks discipline and perspective. He could theoretically find that in the Marines. There are different types of desperate.

Otherwise I agree with you in general, and I know he won't go that route anyway.

BTW nice avatar Jimmy.

I honestly think Zeph is just really out of his comfort zone and is too shocked by it to know how to react. I don't know him really, but based on his posts here, he doesn't seem to have had anything even remotely comparable happen to him. His posts look like huge collections of racing thoughts. I mean, he is going on to graduate school, and moving far from his home at the same time.

I guess it's back to therapy and waiting for the antidepressants to start working their magic.

I wouldn't put my faith in those. I've had friends take them and turn into different people, zombie like almost. If they work for you then great, but you really need to sort your own head out. Antidepressants just mask whatever the real problem is imo.

You make it sound like people typically lose all introspection and forethought when on antidepressants. Do you really think that's the case?

I don't know for sure because I've never taken them. My opinion of them comes from seeing people who I know really well take them. It seems like compression of the brain. Take out all the high & lows. Sure, you're not going to freak out or become depressed/anxious, because your thought patterns are being altered. Constantly.

My advice is to take them to get you out of a hole if you need to, but don't stay on them.

Yeah, as with any mind altering drug it's good to stay around responsible people you trust so they can help you make decisions.

I find it rather odd that you want to take anti-depressants and think those are going to solve your problems when you thought not that long ago that marijuana (the greatest anti-depressant of all time and 100% natural and safe) made you unmotivated and all this other jazz. Switching from natural remedies to pharmaceuticals could be a bad idea, but hey, a-d's work for a lot of people so they might work for you.

Truth be told, I think Dak is on the right path here. Jeremy comes off as a perfect example of someone who needs physical and mental discipline to be instilled in their life to maintain order of some kind, not to mention any type of physical exertion like working out or martial art or even a yoga class is a very good way of literally working out problems. It's not much of a coincidence when you consider those who maintain some sort of physical activity in their lives are more physically and mentally healthy. You could also read up on nootropics like this one, which I've taken and can vouch for.

I'm not talking about guns, i'm talking about the difference in lifestyle between a support and combat arms environment in the military

I met very few people who were in "combat arms" who met my qualifications of "men", unless the "hur dur" type is what you are referring to.

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles, Jeremy.

The fiance and I just got back from an Alaskan cruise with our families. It was lots of fun; good food, shows, wilderness hikes and tours, whale watching, zip-lining... it was a busy week! Back to reality now though, we're driving to Buffalo tonight, then on to Boston tomorrow, where we will hopefully be given keys to a decent apartment and intercept a container that basically holds our entire life inside it.

I'm going to be on edge until August 20. Once that day passes, I'll feel like I can breathe again.

"Join the military!"
