next katatonia album

That is not true.

We have material coming, slowly but surely. Bits and pieces have been gathered ever since the release of TGCD.

The new Bloodbath album stole some precious Kata-time but we should be back in the office by now.

Thanks for your concern however, feels good that there is interest out there!

THE KATATONIA SEASON

We can hear many question….

"Why is there no new Katatonia album out by now???"

And you might rightfully think so, our 8th album (and the last in the contract with Peaceville) should have been done and put out "ages ago" if things would've gone according to plan… It's crazy how fast time goes by these days and that doesn't help us much when inspiration runs dry. We've been meaning to enter the studio on many occassions already since two years back and I think we ended up cancelling booked sessions twice. Although it worked successfully every time in the past, it just got us stressed out and pushed us into a phase of writer's block. From this we learned we better not book anything in advance as it stands, but focus on completing 100% of the material, be perfectly happy with what we got and first then hit the studio.

It seems we might pull things together for maximum devotion this time as all current and previous distractions are now gone. The Summer festivals are over and the level of live gigs for the next months are put to a minimum and Bloodbath - our Death Metal sideproject's new album is done too (to be released on October 6th, check it out or all our hard work was for nothing hah!).

So what about the music? Bits and pieces have been collected ever since The Great Cold Distance came out. It's just that we've been trying too hard, been thinking too much about the sound and direction. How can we top this and how can we change that. We've been stumbling around offroad looking for the answers and it ended up being a long walk. We don't find it meaningful to trace your own footsteps back from where you came, but we rather find the first nearest exit to the same road up ahead where we're at to get back on the map again.

I wont give away any hints just yet about how it will sound, but we hope to give you more light on the progress of this untitled embryo as we get closer. What's certain is that we've found a good equation to work with now and that my friends is that it's all about the 8th studio album and the autumn. Here comes the Katatonia season…

Hello
I loved Great Cold distance style .. Deliberation is my favourite song from this album.July is very nice too.
Also Sweet Nurse is very nice..Is more of feeling of asylum and fall apart..Anyone Silent hill..I bet Katatonia will be very good for Silent Hill sound track (/me looks in Jonas Renske eyes)..Sweet Nurse is awesome for this (/me thinking at wheelchairs and hospital beds)

It's not rock but the music is very depressive...

Been lurking around here for months hoping for some news about a new Katatonia album, and here it finally is! It's not especially great news, but it's news :)

I'd just like to throw this out there, in case the band picks it up: concerning direction, IMO Unfurl was one of the best and most wonderful songs they ever made, and that's saying a lot. I hope they take what they learned with Unfurl to the next album, I really feel there's a lot of potential there. I'm not saying I'd want every song to be like Unfurl, I just hope they won't pretend it never happened, that'd be a damn shame.

Regardless, I'm confident the new album will be secksay no matter what.

What's the problem Mr. Tinus ? :)
When i saw Live Consternation concert i tried too look him in the eyes to meet the feelings...

For some reason I have all the Elend albums...I hardly listen to them ever, but I find them interesting because what they do is very different. Sadly their newer stuff is just not interesting enough...all old my dying bride fans probably at some time have ran into Elend. Their earlier stuff was a bit more interesting, two first cds...of course their first cd is so depressive it's scary. Their second is powerful and at times beautiful like hell. Their next cds are more movie scores that you'll need a really active imagination to follow in your own head. Or maybe I've just grown lazy...?

Killswitch Engage?

Anyways, thanks for posting the update! this news definitely made my week!

Anyhoo, in the new Katatonia album I want some new instruments..I'm still hoping for a Ukulele or Banjo..simple song with Renkse enjoying himself with some fun bass playing and kickass drums...really minimalistic...ok, just add it like a bonus track or something. Thanks!!
