Novembers doom any good?

Someone knows what they are talking about. :)

If you like things like Opeth, Katatonia, Agalloch etc then you'd probably like ND.

I don't really think ND is at all in the same group as Opeth or Agalloch, ND seems a lot more straightforward and like, real death metal instead of prog-death or whatever.

Regardless, I think any fan of death metal or doom metal will like ND, especially The Pale Haunt Departure. Uh, shared spot for best American band with Agalloch and Subterranean Masquerade?

It all depends....sometimes people think we're progressive, and other people think we're straightforward. Some things we do are pretty straightforward, and then other things we do I think come off as simple and are actually a bit more complex than you might think. It's always been a challenge to me to try and write music that was complex but catchy, and intricate without going over people's heads.
I've seen other musicians try to learn some of our songs by ear, and they're surprised to find that there's alot of intricacies that they're not picking up on. It's not to say it's "hard" to play our stuff but there's definitely some unorthodox things going on here and there. Alot of that can be credited to Eric's style of writing and playing, and it took me a lil' while to fully grasp it when I joined the band.

I think that there's some common traits that all of the above mentioned bands share, in terms of the mood and vibe they set with their music. But the thing about Opeth, Katatonia, and Agalloch (and dare I say ND too) is that they all have their own defining features that separate each other, even if they can all tend to appeal to a particular type of listener.

Its an odd thing for me....
ND is a band that includes Paul Kuhr III, whom I went to high school with, and other people and their significant others that I have become attached to.
As a band, I love the style and sound, as Im a doomy person.
I can also appreciate the death/thrash influences in the sound as well.

Its just a great band that is filled with such emotion, I love it.

I also just like hanging with the guys and talking Metal, Simpsons, sports, beer.

One of my favorite bands for all of these reasons, and that comes from the heart.

Dan Tyrantor.

My high school blew.
It only bred a few members of Screeching Weasel, Vito, and myself
(Maine East High School, in Park Ridge).

Some honorable mentions go to Harrison Ford and Hillary Clinton (only through Junior year, as she wanted to graduate from the more "posh" Maine South)

Actually I never went to Maine East only Notre Dame, Niles West, and Ombudsman. So your "cool" club of Maine East grads just got lamer since I didn't go there! :D In the words of the ever so wise master Splinter, "I made a funny!" Actually my parents(along with most of my junior high friends' parents) thought that Maine East was this super gang active school where kids got shot everyday, and drugs were sold to them every hour on the hour. I'm sure some of that shit did actually happen haha, but people blew that shit way out of context.

I went to two high schools.....I spent freshman and sophmore year at Mt. Carmel, which is an all boys catholic school, and yes it was fucking dreadful. There was myself and perhaps three or four other guys in the whole school who listened to metal. Who the fuck wants to go through high school without being around hot h.s. girls every day? Luckily I finally convinced my parents to send me elsewhere, and I wound up spending Junior and Senior year at Whiting High School, in Whiting Indiana. Those two years were great for the most part, I loved it there.

I went to Columbia-Montour Vocational Technical School, where I graduated with honors in computer technology in 2000. There weren't many metalheads there either, but I still enjoyed it there.

p.s., these new servers are awesome!

Ah. for some reason I thought you told me you went to Shit Feast, errr I mean Maine East.
I know some people who went to Notre Dame, but they are older than you so you probably don't know them.

I think like any high school, drugs were there if you wanted them.

Gang activity was VERY high when I was in high school. I knew a (white) guy who joined the "Latin Kings". His initiation was a severe baseball bat beating. His wounds were a badge of honor to him. It is insane to think that there are kids out there who are that starved for attention that they will do literally anything to feel accepted.

Vito - Thank your parents for keeping you away from Maine East!

Gangs could quite possibly be the stupidest thing ever, but it does unfortunately go along with the general mentality of people.....the need to "belong" to something, to be accepted as part of some particular group, and show some allegiance of some kind. Being the "loner" or the "outsider" especially when you're a teen is viewed as being some awful affliction. I think the notion of being a unique individual and that being a bad thing is rather sad really. But like I said, it seems to be the way of humanity.

Whiting High School had little to no gang activity at the time, it was really cool. In fact, even though there were still "clicks", there seemed to be alot less boundaries than what seems to be the standard....i.e., the head quarterback was also a metalhead, as well as an Honor Roll student. Metalhead guys dated cheerleaders, etc. It was pretty damn cool actually!
