But dude, as some parts you're programming stuff a drummer would need 4 hands to play that hahaha

not really, I tried to avoid it and the fills are not faster than 16th notes IIRC. But there is the thing that the ssd cymbals just sound a bit better if you layer them, so there might be like 3 cymbal hits and a snare hit at the same time, like at the beginning of Bar 28.

I was refering to that...4 cymbals at a time usually aren't possivle in RL haha
But I use SD2 so went quick over it and adjusted it to SD2. I'll post a mix when I'll set the sounds for the drums.

Neither is 4 guitars live :loco: It's just to give more emphasis/variation to the hit

Yeah man I know what you mean, I just never use the SSD cymbals, so I was a bit surprised when I saw the midi file because with SD2 I never ran into issues of that kind. No offense intended bro sry :)

It's not an issue as it was intended, but an artistic choise. Similiar to when drummer plays two cymbals at a time, it sounds different than just one cymbal. The two chinas underneath quieter with lower velocity are there just to give the cymbals a bit more agression. If you listen to this clip, it first has only one cymbal, then only the other cymbal, then the cymbals and last the additional chinas. You can hear how the timbre changes a bit

Yes I hear what you mean...
Did you guys want to keep it close to the original? Because right now I'm fiddling around a bit with the stuff, I hope I didn't go too far...

So now we have guits/ bass/ drums/ solo ??
If someone could place my solo over the guitars to make sure it sounds right, please do, it was hard to play over that backing track, I'm in Drop B but accustomed to the tuning haha. Cheers

Here's a roughmix. Please don't mind Volumes and sounds, its all over the place right now and my ears are allready fucked.
Especially Kick and Snare is nowhere final...not sure yet which direction it should take sample/soundwise for them, any suggestions?
Also I have no idea if the drums should be more wet or dry, reverbwise.

Please check in case I fucked up something (drums or guitars, or missed some parts or played some wrong chords)

Drums: I took Anssis midifile for the drums and tweaked it. You guys want the tomintro be in the final version? Anssi programmed it and I think its quite cool.
Drums are humanized allready (not that audible since the kick and snaresamples arent really dynamic)
Guitars: I'm not a guy who plays the stuff 100% as on the CD^^ Soundwise I tried some marshall GROAR, I think it will sound good with the bass.

No fadeout at the end yet.

Just some Limiter and Gclip on the masterbuschain for now to make it loud.

It's exportet from 0 so you can use it to record bass and vocals
180bpm

edit: also threw the solo in there. fx wise same for the drums, no idea if it should be more a dry mix as the original or a bit more reverb.

Ohh! I like it dude! I'm glad it's not all 100% like the original, it sounds great. I look forward to hearing the bass and vox etc. Not sure if I'm happy with my solo 100% haha! Not mix wise, just playing, I rushed a little to get it done in time. But if there is still time I may re do it :P As for the FX on it etc, im cool for a little more of a wet mix if you guys are, I know it's a very DRY solo in the original, but I'm not a big fan of that sound personally anyway :S so yeah... completely up to you guys! Great job on guitars also :)

Hey Guys,

I did a few Dio covers some time ago and likely still have the cubase projects, if it turns out you need drums for this song. I just do these as backing tracks to jam over but the drums can be exported processed or midi etc...
It is using Superior Drummer 2 with DFH for ezx, but I think my drum map is custom. Also the tempo is not steady, ranging from about 90 to 96 bpm throughout the song - I humanize by adjusting tempo when needed to follow the original and make sure the beats and mesaures still work.

Here is how it sounds...

Good Luck with the project !!

Yeah sure just redo the solo before I have to make the final mix ;)
I'd also say moar fx...more epic somehow haha

won't comment any more indepth as there is no bass (or then it was so quiet that I didn't hear it below the guitars), but imho the hihat needs to be a lot louder.

edit: btw, what do you say about adding synths to this? I think especially to the parts that should go like "TADA!" (between the velvet lies etc) might benefit from them, and maybe some droning/pad beneath the verses. Also I wouldn't mind one subdrop to start off the song, but no more. more than 1 is supergay.

I was about to write "the HiHat is so fucking low in volume" so now I'm sure about that.
No Bass yet in this mix.
Everything in order playingwise, also with the drums?

edit: yeah I thought about that too while recording the guitars...but then I tought maybe it's because it feels empty because theres no vocals yet.
But some synths at the TADA!! velvet lines would be badass for sure...do you want to take care of that or shall I see If I can come up with something?
I'm not a huge fan of subdrops at all (everything else than 0 is supergay lol) but maybe it gives some punch to the start....

There were some parts that stuck out like a sore thumb, I'll edit the parts to this post in a moment.

edit: looks like they were all ride cymbal parts, or it is mostly the sound of the ride that sounds "too pure ping" instead of the "crash-like" ride, it needs to sound more dirty. you know, more closer to the edge with the side of the stick and not like closer to the bell with the tip of the stick.

- the ride part at the beginning (0:02-0:08) needs something (maybe 8th/16th note ghost hits?) or then to be changed to another cymbaltype
- the 3:14-3:17, 3:40-3:50, 4:24-4:31 ride parts just don't fit/sound so sweet, needs to be some other cymbal or better sounding ride sample

edit2: I really liked the DragonForce esquee powermetal part :)

Ahhh sure, I'll just fiddle around with the articulations / try another ride cymbal shouldn't be a problem :)
But you're right, I'll try to change the Ride part at the beginning, sounds a bit "weak" right after the start^^

Do you mean the solo part? lol
whenever theres some kind of trioled action going on in the solo there has to be the same doublebassaction going on
