Well, the only bigger difference what I did was that I played major/minor chords, 1 3 5 (for example A C# E for major and A C E for minor) when you played power chords, 1 5 8 (A E A), so not that big of a change there

edit: but what do you think about the slightly droney/dreamy pads under the verses?

Yeah I tought that you did something like that. I always get confused when I switch from Guitar to Keyboards, that's why I leave that stuff to people actually know what they are doing, and not just trieing like me

Something to fill the verses would be nice for sure too. Some ambient pad stuff?

it depends on the verse, but I think most of the time it's:

C - G#
C - A# - G# -A#
C - G#
C - A# - C

Thanks man! Yeah, still need to give it a go with fresh ears again when we have some vocals (my GF's gonna give it a shot).
I didn't post the mix here (just sent it to Anssi via PM) so here's the mix he was speaking of:

I also think that there's still some tweaking to do mix and masteringwise,but you get the idea...
also still not much automation (solo volume for example ect).
I gonna have to take a look at everyhing again anyway when we'll have some vocals (not sure if the guitars leave enough space for vocals atm tbh).
But yeah...at least you can hear the bass (kickass Gary!) and the synth stuff I tried at the verse/bridge (havent added yours still Anssi)

Plenty of weak parts as i just threw my mic up and sang without listening to it or warming up, but you'll get the idea. My GF wants to record a version anyway, more for herself rather than anything else, so she literally doesn't care that much if we would pick her version or not
I'd love to have bouth though, it's better to have too much rather than have nothing to work with haha

Male and female? maybe exchanging parts or something, I think it could come out pretty damn good and different that way (not that what you're doing isn't already fresh and different enough, just saying it could really add up to it)

Yeah I know that tribute, I saw that concert in Laserdisc (did that thing even hit europe? it lasted so little cause Dvds destroyed them) many times. I just didn't get what you were saying, and now I do.

Yeah I agree, and although we have some really good singers, none of them are Dio hahaha so we better put our best in the instrumentation/arrangements/mixing to make it sound totally kickass even if it's not the real Dio singing

edit: Sounds good overall, but there are some things that bother me a bit, and fixing them could make the track sound better... Nothing personal, but you know, I'm a bit of a vocal nazi as most of the regular people mainly listen to the vocals and if the source material is better than good, it's easier to work on the material to make the end product sound closer to stellar.

- Vocalchain
What microphone are you using, and are you compressing on the way in? The vocals sound pretty muffled, like there is no sizzle on the esses or anything, it might be from overcompression with too fast attack settings but if there is none, then I guess it is the microphone. If it's something like SM58, can you try to get a hold of a large diaphram condenser microphone?

- Articulation
The change of microphone might change some of this, but the articulation sounds maybe a bit too round and stretched (like instead of "tiger" it sounds more like "thaiga" and "diamonds" sound like "diemoth"), compared where the dio's articulation is very straightforward cubical, which makes it sound maybe a bit more agressive. So if you just can, maybe even over-articulate a little on the consonants, but don't lose the mojo over it.

- Emotion
This one is a minor thing, but in the beginning where there are the hums ("uuu, yeah-i-yeah" and when there is the "jump jump" later on before the solo), could you try to make them sound a bit more emotional. The part with "gotta get away" was very good on the emotion part, but the "holy diver" part after that was maybe a bit over, but in Finland we have this saying "mielummin överit kun vajarit", which means something like "rather over than under".
