^ Exactly. Otherwise every member of the community should go to a different place to talk about Opeth and other off-topic matters. What if they declined to admit off-topic stuff here and we kept on coming? That would be a joke, obviously. And I would go for a true revolution. If we're signing our names on that list, we mean we want more off-topic here (within some limits, see the first post). If we don't get anything concerning our petition, we should really consider going somewhere else to discuss about Opeth and non-Opeth related things --if we feel like a community of course. I don't think they'd be 'against' it per se. The issue here is that the band and Anna feel that off-topic material could soon blow out of proportion and result in this place becoming a haven for SPAM. Yet, this is the sort of thing that I was appointed for. The initial reason was to simply control the forum and stop things going out of hand.
With the way things are, my position is more or less redundant. The guidelines are so set in concrete and so focused on strictly on-topic matter that people realize the situation is either 'talk about Opeth, or get out', and most seem smart enough to abide by that. Apart from people still occasionally promoting other bands, everyone seems to have gotten the message.
So where does that leave us now? If we could convince the band that we *can* keep off-topic discussion to a reasonable extent, I think we have a shot at this. Failing that, of course, is why we had appointed a mod in the first place. A mod can actually be put to use if people are given more freedom, in the case that some abuse it. On top of that, there is always the option to revert to how things are now.

all good points moonlapse, im glad you agree. and yes...even if we need a 2nd mod just to make sure the spam and silliness doesnt get to out of control levels, then i dont think it would be the end of the world either.
i think proposing a trial run of this new system to anna and mike once we have at least 45 (preferably 50) signatures would be the thing to do.
