I don't think they'd be 'against' it per se. The issue here is that the band and Anna feel that off-topic material could soon blow out of proportion and result in this place becoming a haven for SPAM. Yet, this is the sort of thing that I was appointed for. The initial reason was to simply control the forum and stop things going out of hand.
With the way things are, my position is more or less redundant. The guidelines are so set in concrete and so focused on strictly on-topic matter that people realize the situation is either 'talk about Opeth, or get out', and most seem smart enough to abide by that. Apart from people still occasionally promoting other bands, everyone seems to have gotten the message.
So where does that leave us now? If we could convince the band that we *can* keep off-topic discussion to a reasonable extent, I think we have a shot at this. Failing that, of course, is why we had appointed a mod in the first place. A mod can actually be put to use if people are given more freedom, in the case that some abuse it. On top of that, there is always the option to revert to how things are now.
I don't think it's too much to ask that we at least trial a new system for a little while and see how it suits. I also think if Mike and Anna are reasonable people, which I *know* they are, they will understand this and agree.
You can hardly argue when a majority of the forum community is telling you that they want change!
