I'm talking about the old school 2-D platform games based on every action movie that ever came out around that time. Where you just walked through a repetitive background, beating up thugs who all looked the same, while some cool MIDI played, until you get to the boss (who for some reason is 50 times stronger - and sometimes bigger - than his henchmen).

I'm sick of these 3-D games that are coming out now... a video gamer's idea of "3-D" used to be Double Dragon because you could walk up and down on the street. Video games have lost all their flair, about 99% of the games that come out are either sports, a Tomb Raider clone, or some gay ass RPG like Final Fantasy XXX: The Penis Within.

Thus ends my rant.

It really depends on your perception of things. How long you have played them will affect you, definately. Some guys have played video games for 10 years, and lived the days of Nintendo and Super Nintendo and came out of those and grew to love the new stuff too. I would fit into that category. Of course I love the nostalgic feeling of playing some Burger Time, or some old Donkey Kong game; but the games today just can not be passed up. The most recent gaming project taht has truly amazed me is Final Fantasy X. This game is almost like playing a movie, I can't describe how real it feels...almost too real. Which is a problem for some, but in this case it really is a plus.
I happen to love the new stuff thats coming out, but games like Tomb Rader and shit like that piss me off big time. I need to hook up my super nes!
And by the way, I LOOOOVE RPG's so don't put down Final Fantasy.
(Oh how I would go for a good playing of some old Castlevania right now)

"Old" video games that bring back memories for me:

Pacman (I have 2 original bar table models in my basement)
Pong
Centipede
Wolfenstein

I bought Tomb Raider years ago, but never finished with it. Doom and Quake are cool also. Currently, I only play EA Sports NHL and the new Wolfenstein.

I was litterally raised on video games. I was playing atari since before I could talk, and my earliest memories was visiting my cousin's house to play his Celico Vision because it had such cool graphics (at the time). I remember when nes was I was addicted to Super Mario Bros, then the snes, and so on.

I definitely mis the golden days of Gradius, Ninja Gaiden, and Double Dragon. Back when games were simpe fun instead of some commercialized, pop-culture nonsense. Still, I grew to love the new stuff too, even though I wish they'd release some quality 2d games.

I think the thing about games back then was that there was hardly a plot, you didn't have to sit through ten pages of tutorials to learn how to walk from point A to point B without blowing yourself up, and you didn't have to remember a whole bunch of stupid jargon for that game. You just sat down, picked up the controller, and instantly got into the action and just had fun.

Oh, I do miss those old days... but hell, thats what emulators and roms are for, hehe! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm trying to beat that damn boss in Ninja Gaiden 3. :D

double dragon was fucking superb, especially in 2 player, always ended in us beatin the shit outta each other instead of the bad guys, and throwing flares at each other and shit, great! i had a commodore64, games cost like $5 and took at least 15minutes to load, anyone remember the dizzy games? the platform games with that little egg type guy, those games were sooo much fun, then i got a nes, omg mario 3! hehe, then i got a sega megadrive or "genesis" and was blown away by sonic2, grahics were amazing for the time, and one of my fave games of all time golden axe! was almost exactly the same as the arcade version, hehe i loved riding those fire breathing dragons! then of course the super nes and super mario world, i played that game non-stop for months until completing all 97 levels, anyone remember that fucking huge bazooka type gun thing that you used with the super nes, it was shittt!!! then i remember getting street fighter2 and i thought it was superb until mortal kombat came out, i dont think anyone ever beat me at that game muahahaha, then i got a playstation when they first came out and had wipeout, ridge racer, die hard trilogy, tomb raider, resident evil etc... they were completely different to anything that had gone before it, and made a nice change from button bashing and bleeding fingers :) then i got an n64 just to play goldeneye, all the other games were shit, and then i got a ps2 the day they came out and wasnt very impressed, have yet to find a good game for it, it really only gets used for playing dvd's now :( i've given up on consoles now, would much rather frag someone over the internet, single player games are very very boring these days, not much skill involved in completing them, just a matter of sitting back for a few hours watching the fmv sequences and all the dialogue, i got max payne and it took me like 10hours to complete, probably spent more time watching the cartoons than i did shootin bad guys, and the sad thing is its probably one of the best games in recent years...in terms of quality and gameplay, the old lucas arts puzzle games like monkey island and day of the tenticle were probably the best ever made, the graphics were not great, there was no complex plot, no great story, just great puzzles that took ages to figure out, but when you did figure them out the feeling was fantastic! and they had great, funny scripts, they didnt take themselves too seriously and were not so totally over dramatic like most of the games are today

my first games console, had a game called space monsters for it, a blatent rip-off of space invaders :D

yeah fighting m.bison was damn hard, he'd always do that flying spining thing with the blue flames that you couldnt block, baah!

"ToeJam and Earl for Sega Genisess!"
That game simply ruled.

I use to play a lot of console games, have a PS2 now, but my computer gets used twice as much. Mortal Kombat was my favorite fighting game, I loved it. I grew up playing NES too, got one when I was four or so.

My friends and I run emulators on LAN and we played bomber man against each other last weekend, that was blast, I hadn't played bomberman in so long, I loved that game! Anyone remember Supersmash TV "Dun dun dun de doo de dun dun, GO! GO! GO! Big money! Big Prizes, I LOVE IT!" I ran that on Zsnes and the music brought back so many memories, my brother and I use to play that game all the time! Damnit I sound like Comic book guy

at school last year someone brought in a snes and we all had a huge super bomberman tournament and a mortal kombat3 tournament, though we never got to finish them 'cos after about 2 weeks someone threw it against a wall and smashed it to pieces, funny thing was we had a n64 as well and yet no1 played it, everyone wanted on the snes :D

Super Bomberman and MK 1-3 were the best SNES games :D
I remember playing bomberman and MK so much when I was younger. Then when I got an N64 we played goldeneye for two years, that's all we played on that thing, everytime my friends came over we'd play goldeneye for like an hour or two, sometimes we'd have like 200 kills each from playing so long, we made all these intricate rules up to give it more variety, like you could take someone prisoner and order them to be a walking bullet shield for you. We always played with -10 handicap, the best way, most anything is instant death, except for Klobb bullets and hitting the outside of explosions.
