ProgPower USA VIII Date

Actually, I had a studio at the RI this year for $99 through their website. In 2005, our room was only $90!! Now they want to charge $159 for the same room and they aren't offering and web discounts. Bummer. I guess they've gotten wise to us. So I'm going back to the Granada, which isn't cheap either, but since we don't have to rent a car or take cabs, it's not that bad. And since we have a kitchen, my boyfriend and I will just stock up on groceries. I should have a few people over to our room because he cooks like a mofo. :headbang:

Ditto, ditto, ditto. The difference for me for the same room at the RI was about $70 this year, and after I got jerked around by them this year, no thanks. Got a room at the Granada for an average of $130 a night, with a kitchen. It just seems a little strange that they want to increase prices *so* much when it's already guaranteed they'll be booked solid. Guess it just smacks of price-gouging to me, but what do I know? :)

I called the Grenada directly last night. The lady asked what dates, and I said, "October 4."

She said, "Oh. Prog?"

I laughed and said, "yeah."

She said, "I guess everybody got the e-mail today."

I said, "Not everybody. Wait until tomorrow."

Anyway, we got (supposedly) the last suite at $179/night. That's the same price we paid last year, so I've got no gripes. I always call the hotel directly.

Hey stranger! <waves to Lady_space>

I'm not sure when the Residence decided to start gouging like that. I really like that hotel better, and I really didn't like the Grenada much during my one stay. That said, the Residence just isn't $70+/night better.

I'm hoping everyone decides to stay elsewhere in order to send a message to those greedy bastards!

I'm going to stay at the Residence Inn again. I hate that they jacked the rates, but I think that hotel is far nicer than the Grenada. The Grenada is a dump in my opinion, and I have had several issues with them during previous stays. The Grenada ... sometimes a great place to party, but I wouldn't want to stay there. It depends on the year, but sometimes they even bitch at you for partying to loudly.

That's god damn expensive rooms there in Atlanta. Just visited Keep it True in Germany, a very nice hotel including breakfast was 70$ for TWO nights !!!!

This year, I stayed at the Westin Peachtree for $69/night...but it's a far walk to Earth Link.

At Masters of Rock in the Czech Republic hotels were going for about $25 a night including breakfast.

Hey guys/gals,

I have a call in to Residence Inn to see ifwe can get some rate decrease consideration since we can pretty much guarantee them full occupancy if they are closer to the rates they had last year. If I am not mistaken a few people got moved elsewhere because they were completely booked last year correct? At this rate (with their new price) they won't have squat this year from us.

I'll let you know if it works out. What price point do you all feel comfortable paying, realising that it will be a bit more than last year? I know I had paid $129 night for the "studio" I think they call it. Would $139-145 be a good target for you all?

Feedback please, thanks!

I'm booked for Granada but need to make a call to another hotel I had the wrong weekend with tonight when I'm home from work. Any online places won't let me book anything past October 3rd and I used Yahoo before and they gave me a $20 a night cheaper rate at that place (Ansley Inn)

Deron,

I think 139/night sounds reasonable enough. I'd be more than willing to stay at the RI this year if we were given a nice deal. Let us know, you have me in for that.

Do what you can Deron, any help is appreciated, we are paying $209 for a two bedroom suite sp if you can get it for $199 as last year it would be appreciated.

I am having a problem with the booking of a hotel mostly because I am not sure how close some of these hotels are. Usually I just use expedia or whatever but their booking doesnt go that far forward. So can someone help with numbers or addresses of some close ones that arent on the PP homepage?

Thanks

Ian

Phew!! That was a close one.

My daughter's birthday is on September 28th, and I was worried that in the year when that falls on a Friday AND Glenn hinted about moving the dates a bit, that the fest would end up on September 28/29 and I'd probably have to stay home. So I'm thrilled about the new dates!

On the hotel front, I booked the RI since the rooms are very nice, and I've still heard more stories about reservations gone bad at the Grenada than at the RI. The Sheraton is also an option, but they don't appear on Hotwire for that weekend (I've booked them there before, so I know which option it is) and the Sheraton web site says there is no availability for the Thu/Fri/Sat window. I didn't try to narrow that down to just Fri/Sat. Anyway, if anyone was going to look into the Sheraton this year, you might find it booked for some reason.

Cheers,

Ken

If RI is near capacity, they can charge MORE rather than less...supply and demand dictates an increase in rates.

That said (and after booking a room for 189+ taxes +parking garage==229 a night!!!!), I am thinking that it makes more sense to get a hotel a few miles away and park at the venue each night, or take a cab to and from.

Which Mariott? There are three in Midtown: the RI, the Suites, and the Courtyard... and I'm looking for a more affordable room than the one I have booked, since I don't know if I'll have a roommate or not.

The Midtown Suites on 14th is the one we always stay at, it's within walking distance of the venue and is pretty nice. You need to factor in $18/day for parking if you'll have a car though.

Well Fuck!! Both Residences are sold out!! Come on guys I am dying here I need to get this room, AHH!!!!!!! <franticly pulls out hair>

Well I did a search of hotels in the area using Yahoo Travel. Then I went to the actualy hotel websites to make reservations.
